TNB: RM90 Billion Allocated To Beef Up Energy Grid, Roll Out 500 EV Charging Points
-full_normal.jpg)
As Malaysia moves toward its ambitious 2050 net-zero emissions goal, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) is committed to building an accessible, nationwide EV charging network. This effort aligns with Malaysia’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) 2021-2030, which aims to make EVs 15% of the total industry volume by 2030.
This is also in line with the National Energy Policy (NEP) 2022-2040, which aims to reach 38% of electrified vehicles (xEV) by 2040, supported by 10,000 charging stations by 2025, comprising 8,500 AC chargers and 1,500 DC chargers.

To meet these targets, TNB’s infrastructure expansion plan includes installing 500 new charging points by 2025, with 200 of these being fast DC chargers. These stations will be strategically located across urban centres and along highways, ensuring convenient access for both everyday commutes and longer journeys.
TNB will also be investing significantly in the national grid to facilitate the country’s energy transition. Between 2025 and 2030, the company will channel RM90 Billion into grid enhancements, with RM35 billion allocated specifically for energy transition initiatives.

As part of its commitment to reducing its own carbon footprint, TNB has pledged to transition 30% of its own vehicle fleet to EVs by 2030, equating to over 1,000 electric vehicles on the road.
Through its collaborations with partners such as Petron, PLUS Malaysia Bhd, Aeon Mall, and BHPetrol, TNB is creating a more inclusive network that extends beyond major cities to reach rural areas, ensuring equitable access to EV infrastructure across Malaysia.

Recently, we featured TNB Electron launching its TNBX EV charging station at Petron Selising in Kelantan and Petron Kampung Gemuroh in Terengganu, further solidifying TNB’s commitment to establishing a reliable EV charging network in less represented areas.
In addition to expanding physical infrastructure, TNB will enhance the EV charging experience with digital solutions. Through its subsidiary TNBX, the company’s 3rd party charging app GO TO-U allows EV users to easily locate, reserve, and pay for charging slots.

Guided by the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETP), TNB is actively paving the way for a greener Malaysia. Through its dedication to expanding EV infrastructure and promoting clean energy, TNB is making the transition to EVs more feasible and convenient for drivers nationwide, setting the stage for a more sustainable future.
