WISE Highway Set To Cut Plus Expressway Congestion By 40%
![]()
With the construction of the new West Ipoh Span Expressway (WISE), a highway that will connect Kuala Kangsar and Gopeng in Perak, the Malaysian Highway Authority hopes to cut traffic congestion on the Plus Expressways by 40%.
The WISE toll rate, which is set at 23 sen per km, is subject to a 55-year concession period, during which four years will be devoted to construction in order to establish a substitute route for cars that currently use the Menora Tunnel to travel between the north and south of the peninsula.
The main goal of building this highway, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, is to help vehicles, particularly heavy vehicles that encounter difficulties on the current route because of the hilly terrain, which also increases the risk of accidents.

“With improved road design and additional safety measures, we hope WISE will enhance travel safety,” he said at the exchange ceremony of WISE concession agreement at Menara Kerja Raya in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 30.
This project was signed in September, and construction will start as soon as WISE satisfies a number of conditions, such as obtaining funding, with completion anticipated in 2028.
