MG ZS HEV, MG3 HEV & MG7 Set to be Previewed at KLIMS 2024

Besides the new MG Cyberster, MG’s showcase at KLIMS 2024 will also feature the new MG ZS HEV, MG3 HEV, and the MG7.
In case you missed it, SAIC Motor Malaysia is slated to launch its halo EV model, the MG Cyberster, at the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024. Besides the EV roadster, it appears that this Shanghai-based marque will also be previewing several upcoming models, namely the second-gen MG ZS HEV, the MG3 HEV, as well as the MG7.

Second-gen MG ZS HEV
Starting with the ZS HEV, which debuted globally earlier this year, this is essentially the second-gen hybrid version of the ZS EV SUV launched by the brand prior. For its second-gen iteration, the ZS gets a new design that makes it look similar to the second-gen MG HS C-segment SUV and the MG3 HEV hatchback.

Dimension-wise, the new MG ZS HEV spans 4,430 MM long, 1,818 MM wide, 1,635 MM tall, with a wheelbase of 2,610 MM, which puts it on par with other hybrid-powered B-segment SUVs like the Honda HR-V e:HEV RS, the GWM Haval Jolion HEV, and the upcoming Nissan Kicks e-Power.

On the powertrain front, the new ZS HEV gets an upgraded hybrid powertrain setup comprising a 1.5-litre 4-cyl nat-asp petrol engine as a core, which is augmented by a single e-motor to deliver a total system output of 193 HP, allowing a 0-100 KM/H to be finished in 8.7 seconds.
More importantly, MG claims the improved HEV setup on the new MG ZS also allows the car to have a decent fuel economy rate of 28 KM per litre, putting it on par with other conventional hybrid SUVs available in the market.

Third-gen MG3 HEV Hatchback
Moving on to the MG3 HEV, this electrified hatchback is positioned as the brand’s entry-level model. Dimension-wise, the new MG3 HEV is on-par with some other B-segment hatchbacks like the Honda City Hatchback and Toyota Yaris, measuring 4,113 MM long, 1,797 MM wide, and 1,502 MM tall.

Not only does the MG3 HEV share similar design cues with the new ZS HEV, but this electrified hatch also uses the same powertrain setup as its B-SUV twin, although thanks to its smaller facade, the MG3 HEV gets a quicker century sprint time of eight seconds flat.

Second-gen MG7 fastback saloon
Last but not least, the MG7 is a sleek four-door fastback saloon model positioned as the brand’s midsize sedan fighter. Should SAIC Motor Malaysia bring this sleek sedan into our market, the MG7 will be competing against the upcoming ninth-gen Toyota Camry and the ageing Mazda6, as Honda Malaysia has elected not to introduce the eleventh-gen Accord into our market for now.

Exclusively available in full ICE form, the MG7 is powered by a 1.5-litre or 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine rated at up to 185 HP/300 NM and 257 HP/405 NM, respectively. While the former uses a seven-speed Sportronic DCT gearbox, the latter gets a fancier 9-speed ZF 9HP automatic gearbox, which helps it accelerate from 0-100 KM/H in just 6.5 seconds, en route to its limited V-Max of 230 KM/H.
As of now, the automaker has yet to unveil any detailed plans regarding these three upcoming models, but we’d reckon that should any of these models manage to garner rave reception among KLIMS visitors, perhaps it won’t be too long before we get to see them on our roads.
Alongside the trio of upcoming models, SAIC Motor Malaysia will also be showcasing its current crop of models, including the MG5, MG4, and the MG ZS EV. Not to forget, visitors who pre-book any of MG Malaysia’s models at the upcoming KLIMS 2024 will be entitled to exclusive benefits, including a mysterious special gift.
