German automaker Mercedes-Benz took centre stage at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2024 (BIMS 2024) happening this week. Arguably one of the region’s most important auto shows, the three-point star’s display here didn’t disappoint.
Amongst the pretty new metal on show from the marque is the highly-anticipated new sixth-generation E-Class saloon – better known by its W214 chassis code. Also present at the brand’s BIMS 2024 booth is the radical Vision One-Eleven concept EV as well.

We’ll start with the W214 and its appearance at BIMS 2024 is a significant – it marks the model’s debut in the ASEAN region. Launched for the Thai market at BIMS 2024 were diesel mild hybrid (MHEV) and petrol plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models – E220d AMG Line and E350e AMG Dynamic.
There seems to be no pure combustion (ICE) variant being offered yet, but things do look promising nonetheless.

On show was the E350e PHEV model, which is also badged as the E300e in other markets. This variant packs a familiar 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbo mill that’s augmented further by an e-motor and 25.4 kWh battery. Altogether, this setup boasts a total system’s outputs to 313 PS and 550 NM.
Notably, the PHEV system grants between 97 and 115 KM of all-electric range. The battery also accepts up to 55 kW DC fast-charging input, allowing full charges via said input in just 30 minutes.

Key traits of this PHEV variant include Digital Light projector headlights, illuminated grille, and 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. (Images: Mercedes-Benz Thailand Facebook)
In AMG Dynamic guise, the E350e rocks a pair of Digital Light projector headlights, an illuminated grille, and 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. On board, the E250e packs the latest MBUX Superscreen comprised of a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, 14.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the front passenger.
Exclusive to this PHEV variant’s cabin too are a heads-up display (HUD), active ambient lighting, acoustic glass for the windscreen and side windows, open-pore black ash wood trim, the MBUX Interior Assistant, and a Burmester 4D surround sound system.

As for safety, the Thai-spec E250e AMG Dynamic is standard-equipped with seven airbags, stability control, and the Driving Assistance Plus package that adds autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centering assist with evasive steering assist, blind spot monitor, park assist, and adaptive high beam.
For keen Thai prospects, this PHEV variant of the W214 E-Class commands a rather hefty price tag of THB 4.25 million (approx. RM552,045). Given its rather rich list of kit and amenities, we reckon the price is somewhat justified. If anything, this is perhaps a possible indication of how the W214 will be priced when it eventually arrives in Malaysia, and it will sometime this year according to insider sources.

Besides the W214-gen E-Class, Mercedes-Benz also surprised visitors with a showcase of its stunning Vision One-Eleven concept. Revealed back in June last year, this concept stands as an all-electric successor to the brand’s legendary C111 experimental prototype from the 1970s.
