Chery Set To Export Jaecoo Vehicles Across SEA From Malaysia

Chery stands as the first Chinese automaker to export vehicles out of Malaysia across SEA. The landmark effort sees the firm exporting Jaecoo ICE and PHEV models to Vietnam first.
Earlier today, Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Chery) announced that it will begin exporting vehicles made in Malaysia to neighbouring Southeast Asia (SEA) markets. This will make Chery the first Chinese automaker to export its offering out of Malaysia.
“Chery is progressing well towards establishing Malaysia as our production and research and development (R&D) hub in Southeast Asia,” said Leo Chen, Chery Corporate Malaysia Executive Vice President, via press release issued today.
Critically, the move aligns with the firm’s vision of turning Malaysia into its regional production hub. Ahead of which, Chery has begun preparations to scale-up production for future growth, and it also established strategic partnerships with its other local assembly plants in Malaysia.

Presently, Chery locally assembled (CKD) Jaecoo models like the J7, Omoda C9, and upcoming new J7 PHEV, at its assembly plant in Shah Alam, Selangor.
The exec then detailed that the first phase will see Malaysia-made Jaecoo combustion (ICE) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models exported to Vietnam. Following which, exports to other key SEA markets such as Thailand, Brunei, The Philippines, and Singapore, are set to follow soon after.
Presently, the Jaecoo J7, Omoda C9, and upcoming J7 PHEV models are assembled locally (CKD) at Chery’s Shah Alam assembly plant. Models from the main Chery brand – Omoda 5, Omoda E5, Tiggo 7 Pro, and Tiggo 8 Pro – are all assembled in the INOKOM plant located in Kulim, Kedah, instead.

The J7 PHEV model pictured is slated to debut locally very soon.
“We are confident in achieving our goal to make Malaysia the leading export hub for Chery vehicles. Chery is excited to play a role in boosting Malaysia’s economy, develop local talent and strengthen our supply chain,” added Chen further in the same statement.
This new export effort aside, Chery also looks set to see its Jaecoo premium sub-brand expand its local line-up later this month by launching its new J7 PHEV. More details for which are available by clicking these blue words…
