Four Electric Buses Are Now Running In Shah Alam - MB

As part of Selangor's ambitious plan to achieve carbon neutrality, the state government has launched an initiative to introduce electric buses into its public transportation system. Four Smart Selangor electric buses are currently operating along the SA1 route, connecting the Shah Alam KTM station to Section 7 within the city.
The bus operations, which were launched in December of the previous year as a component of the RM5.5 million state initiative, were implemented along the route with the highest density and demand within the city, according to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
We are currently assessing a few factors before adding more electric buses to other Smart Selangor routes,” he said.
Amirudin stated that the initiative to introduce electric buses would be rolled out in Klang, Petaling Jaya, and Subang Jaya. He explained that the decision was based on the stronger financial capabilities of the municipal councils in these areas.
“The cost of running electric buses is higher than that of diesel buses. I believe it can be reduced by increasing the number of buses and areas they operate in, or even extending the contract", he stated.

Amirudin emphasized that the Selangor state government can provide allocations to local councils to run electric buses when the cost of operating them is comparable to diesel buses. He believes that this will enable the introduction of electric buses in more areas within the state.
The location of the electric bus charging station in Puchong, which is situated at a considerable distance from the SA01 route, presents a challenge to the project. However, the minister stated that they will collaborate with Tenaga Nasional and other relevant organizations to address this issue by installing a charging station closer to the route.
