Making its global debut at Xpeng’s Global Brand Night in Hong Kong is the upgraded 2025 Xpeng X9 EV MPV.
Just weeks after making its Malaysian debut, the Xpeng X9 has now gained a new 2025 model year (2025 MY) version. Unveiled at the 2025 Xpeng Global Brand Night in Hong Kong, the new X9 features tons of key upgrades and new equipment, including the Turing AI ADAS suite, superfast 5C charging, and more.

We’ll start with the exterior changes, and given this is not an extensive facelift, the new X9 boasts very minimal design changes over its predecessor. The only notable visual changes here are the new 19- and 20-inch wheel options, with the latter featuring dynamic floating centre caps, as well as several new exterior colour options like Nebula Purple, Galaxy Blue, and Matte Starship Gray.

The changes are more prominent as we get inside the new X9. For starters, Xpeng has added a total of 3.2 square-metre of soft-touch materials to the cabin, while several buttons and trim pieces now feature a more premium PVD vacuum coating finish.

By far the most standout interior upgrade are the Zero-Gravity seats, which now come standard in both the first and second rows. Xpeng also claims these new Gravity seats are more comfortable than before, while featuring a ten-point massage function with an option to upgrade to a 16-point unit.

Accessing the third-row seats has also been made easier in the new X9, as the centre aisle has been integrated into the Zero-Gravity second-row seats, thus leaving a clearer through space to the rear. Speaking of the rear, the third-row seats have also been upgraded, where they now come with power-adjustable backrest and headrest control and can be flat-folded for better practicality.

Wrapping up the cabin upgrades on the new X9 are soft-closing front doors, an anti-blue light filter for the massive 21.4-inch rear infotainment screen, a new 220-volt power outlet, a built-in karaoke function, a larger 10.8-litre refrigerator/heater, surround-style central air conditioning, and one-touch electric folding for the third-row seats.

In terms of driving dynamics, the upgraded X9 still comes standard with the rear-wheel steering (RWS) system that grants this large MPV an impressive turning radius of 5.4 metres. Large AI models are used to simulate and optimise chassis comfort of the new X9, while large investments have also gone into improving its noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels, with a total of 58 NVH improvement points made.
Predictably, no significant powertrain changes took place on the new X9, as it still underpins the same SEPA 2.0 800-volt architecture as before, featuring either a single FWD motor rated at 315 HP (235 kW) and 450 NM or a peppier dual-motor AWD setup that delivers 496 HP (370 kW) and 640 NM.

While its battery options remain unchanged, namely the smaller 94.8-kWh LFP pack or the larger 105-kWh NMC unit, the upgraded X9 does get a faster 5C supercharger. Xpeng claims this new 5C Superfast Charging AI battery can add a range of 405 KM in just 10 minutes of charging, while a 10-80% charge just takes about 12 minutes.
Last but not least, Xpeng has also integrated the new X9 with its new Turing AI Smart Driving ADAS suite across all variants, where it promises to deliver “the industry's first complete autonomous driving software (NGP) that enables seamless parking lot-to-parking lot navigation without interruptions.”

In China, the newly updated 2025 Xpeng X9 comes in four variants, with prices starting from CNY 359,800 (RM217,000) for the baseline 650 Long Range and capped at CNY 419,800 (RM253,000) for the range-topping Starship Edition. Beyond the Great Wall, the new X9 is slated to make its European debut later in the second half of 2025, while Malaysians may have to wait until 2026 before getting their hands on this new EV MPV.
