BMW Has Produced Three Million Electrified Vehicles in Plant Munich
BMW Group has produced three million electrified vehicles in its flagship Munich production plant.
It’s been more than a decade since BMW first debuted its production electrified model, and the Bavarian marque recently reached a new production milestone by producing its three millionth electrified vehicle (xEV) at the flagship Munich production plant. The three-millionth xEV rolled off the Munich assembly line earlier this week was a G21-gen BMW 330e Touring in Portimao Blue, destined for the UK market.
This three-millionth xEV rollout is not only a production milestone for BMW Group but also signifies strong performance of its electrified products years since their inception. In 2024 alone, one in four vehicles sold by the group was already either fully electric (BEV) or a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The group also announced that more than 1.5 million BEVs from BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce have already been delivered globally.
Sales for BMW Group’s xEVs have also shown positive growth so far this year, where both its BEV and PHEV sales figures rose by 28.5% in the first quarter of 2025, totaling 157,495 units. This made electrified vehicles account for 26.9% of all deliveries by the group through March this year, with BEVs alone representing about 18.7% of its total delivery.
While these figures look positive and promising, they are still quite far off from BMW Group’s aim for their BEVs to account for more than 50% of their deliveries by the end of this decade.
To cater to this increased demand for xEVs, all BMW Group plants globally now produce electrified vehicles alongside their full combustion counterparts. Started at BMW Group Plant Leipzig back in 2013, the group has since integrated electric cars into production at all its plants worldwide, with many of their xEV production lines being shared with other full ICE models for better flexibility.
“With its highly flexible production, the BMW Group is able to respond to customer requirements in line with market trends and demand,” explains Milan Nedeljković, member of the Board of Management responsible for Production.
“All plants in our global production network are enabled for electromobility, paving the way for continued growth in this segment,” Milan added.
To go along with this, BMW Group has also boosted the production of its electric powertrain components, as their production is now expanding beyond the group’s Dingolfing plant in Germany. With the Dingolfing plant already reaching an annual capacity of 500,000 e-drive units back in 2022, the group has expanded the e-drive production to other plants like Regensburg, Leipzig, and even the Spartanburg plant in the US.
Moving forward, the historic BMW Group Plant Munich is set to transition exclusively to BEV production by the end of 2027, meaning that the combustion-powered 3 Series will no longer be built there for the first time in its history. Instead, the Munich plant will be in charge of producing the upcoming, Neue Klasse-based BMW i3, set to debut next year.
