Geely Radar King Kong EM-P PHEV Pick-Up Truck Launches In China

This is the Geely Radar King Kong EM-P - the PHEV twin to the all-electric (EV) Radar RD6 launched prior.

Pictured here is the new Geely Radar King Kong EM-P pick-up truck for China. Critically, the ‘EM-P’ bit in its designation ought to tell you that this is the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) twin to the all-electric (EV) Geely Radar RD6 pick-up truck launched six month prior.
In terms of size and footprint, the Radar King Kong EM-P matches its EV twin mentioned earlier. It sits 5,260 MM long with a 3,120 MM wheelbase, 1,900 MM wide, and 1,865 MM tall. A long-wheelbase version is also available, and this sits 5,500 MM long with a stretched 3,130 MM wheelbase figure included.

This PHEV version shares the same footprint as its EV-twin, and even features a long-wheelbase option available. (Images: CarNewsChina)

Similar size and looks aside, the real difference lies underneath. Powering the Radar King Kong EM-P is a PHEV powertrain setup comprised firstly with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol mill, followed by a pair of e-motors, 19.09 kWh LFP battery pack, plus a ‘3DH’ dedicated hybrid transmission.
Altogether, the Radar King Kong EM-P sees its powertrain detailed output a combined 349 HP and 914 NM. With each full fill-up of its 60-litre fuel-tank, Geely touts this plug-in pick-up in having a combined petrol-electric range of up 1,068 KM (CLTC).

Some of the performance figures of the Geely Radar King Kong EM-P. Fuel efficiency headlines things here, evident through figures like 1.5 litres/100 KM average consumption and up to 1,068 KM combined range. (Images: CarNewsChina)
On the performance front, Geely elected to highlight two figures starting with a basic 0-100 KM/H dash of 6.3 secs. Next to it, the automaker also highlighted a century sprint time of 8.6 secs instead, this time with a full 1,000 KG payload.
Naturally, fuel efficiency is a priority in any hybrid setup. This Radar King Kong EM-P is no exception to which, hence Geely’s claims of this pick-up truck sipping as low as 1.5 litres/100 KM on average. With depleted batteries though, said figures raises up to 6.4 litres/100 KM instead, which arguably respectable still for pick-up trucks.

On board, the Geely Radar King Kong EM-P shares a similar design as its same-plaftormed cousing the Geely Haoyue - known also to us as the Proton X90. (Image: CarNewsChina)
Critically, the powertrain’s electrified half brings both 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) output and 21 kW vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging abilities. The former should see this pick-up truck able to power various household appliances or perhaps range of devices or power tools on the job site.
Moving inside and the dual-cab cabin is brimmed with dual digital displays (10.2-inch instrumentation and 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen). Whilst here, you’ll note the shared dash design not just with the EV, but its other same-platformed stablemate the Geely Haoyue – better known to us as the Proton X90.
The Geely Radar King Kong EM-P will see three variants available in China priced from RM82,346 onwards. Export and sale to neighbouring Thailand is also expected to commence soon. (Image: CarNewsChina)

Again, like its EV twin, expect the Radar King Kong EM-P to be marketed overseas outside China as the Riddara RD6 EM-P instead.
As for price, the new Geely Radar King Kong EM-P reportedly commands between RM139,900 (RM82,346) and RMB159,800 (approx. RM 94,12) in its home market of China. Entry into neighbouring Thailand, where its EV twin is already on sale since last year, is expected to commence soon.
