Chery’s Robot Becomes First In The World To Open Car Door On Its Own

Mornine, co-developed by Chery and its in-house robotics team AiMOGA, completed a task that appeared simple but marked a breakthrough in real-world robotics where she opened a car door entirely on her own.

No remote control. No pre-written commands. Just onboard sensors, physical coordination, and a reinforcement learning model trained over millions of simulations.
Mornine located the handle, adjusted her posture, and applied the right amount of force to open the door, all in a real, operating showroom.

AiMOGA sees this as a quiet breakthrough in real-world robotics.
“We never explicitly told the robot what a door handle is. It learned to focus on that region by itself,” said the engineering team in a statement.

Unlike typical robots that follow strict instructions, Mornine relies on real-time perception using 3D LiDAR, wide-angle and depth cameras, and a visual-language model. 

She was trained in simulation, then deployed using Sim2Real methods, with live sensor data continuously feeding into cloud-based learning to improve her capabilities.

Mornine was first introduced by Chery as a virtual character aimed at engaging younger audiences through livestreams and digital media.  Over time, that concept evolved into a fully functional humanoid designed to assist in retail environments.

Today, Mornine is active in several Chery showrooms in China, where she supports tasks such as customer greetings, vehicle introductions, and item delivery. 
In April 2025, she began her first overseas role as an “Intelligent Sales Consultant” at the OMODA C5 JOYSTAR dealership in Kuala Lumpur.
