Kelana Jaya Line Signalling Works Delayed, Phase 2 Work Starts Sept 6
The planned upgrade works for Phases 2 and 3 of the Kelana Jaya Line signalling system, originally set to begin on Aug 9, have been postponed to Sept 6.
Prasarana Malaysia Berhad announced recently the delay is to allow more time for testing the newly installed Phase 1 signalling system. The additional tests are essential to evaluate the system's performance in real-world conditions and to reduce the chances of future disruptions.
For Phase 1, the upgrades were done during overnight maintenance hours as the works were confined to depot areas and did not impact the main train service. The entire project is part of a broader effort to strengthen the system following a major disruption in Nov 2022.
With the revised schedule, Phase 2 works will now take place on selected days in September and October, affecting the KLCC to Gombak stretch. Phase 3 will follow in November, covering stations from Lembah Subang to Ampang Park.
On those specific dates, trains at affected stations will begin operating later than usual, only opening to passengers from 9AM instead of the normal 6AM start. Services at all other stations will run as scheduled.
To ease passenger travel during these disruptions, free shuttle buses and vans will be available between the affected stations.
The new SelTrac Generation 8 system being installed offers real-time data capabilities, stronger cybersecurity, and more reliable communication. It is expected to extend the current system’s lifespan by as much as 20 years.
