Prasarana Rail Reliability Hits Record High, Disruptions Halved
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has reported its best rail reliability numbers yet, with service disruptions cut by more than half compared to last year.
As of July 2025, the rail operator posted a Mean Kilometre Between Failure (MKBF) of 0.54 million km with only 24 service disruptions, a sharp improvement from 0.33 million km with 71 disruptions in 2024 and 0.16 million km with 118 disruptions in 2023.

Group president and CEO Amir Hamdan credited the progress to a series of targeted upgrades, including a Condition-Based Maintenance programme, mid-life refurbishment of Ampang Line trains, and signalling system improvements on the Kajang Line.
“Managing millions of passenger journeys daily is a great trust that we bear, to ensure every commuter enjoys a safe and comfortable journey,” Amir said, adding that special maintenance projects have boosted both system availability and passenger confidence.

Prasarana introduced MKBF as a key performance indicator in 2023 and is now aiming to hit one million km by the second quarter of 2026.
Looking ahead, the benchmark will soon be applied to Prasarana’s bus operations as well, part of our push to lift service quality,” Amir added.
