Sleek Kia K4 Hatch Launches In EU With A 6MT Option
The sleek new Kia K4 hatch is poised to enter European and UK dealerships by year's end, indurectly suceeding the Ceed and taking the fight directly up against the VW Golf.

Earlier this week, Korean automaker Kia officially launched its sleek new K4 hatch for the European and UK markets. Effectively, the K4 hatch picks up where the Ceed hatch left off, albeit indirectly, thus putting it in direct contention against things like the VW Golf.
Notably, Kia elected to offer just the hatch for both Europe and the UK. Across the Atlantic though, the automaker will instead offer the K4 in North America in both hatch and booted sedan (saloon) forms.
For Europe and UK, the K4 gains a 1.0-litre 3-cyl turbo petrol mill with a 6MT option as its baseline. Higher-end variants pair a 1.6-litre turbo 4-cyl petrol mill with a 7-speed DCT auto instead.

Entering European and British dealer lots by year’s end, the Kia K4 hatch sees two powertrain choices on offer. First comes a 1.0-litre 3-cyl turbo petrol choice rated at 113 hp, followed by a larger 1.6-litre 4-cyl turbo petrol mild hybrid (MHEV) unit offering either 148 hp or 178 hp.
The surprise here stems from the European entry-level three-banger noted as Kia have readied said mill with the choice between a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT automatic transmission. The larger 1.6-litre mill however gets the 7-speed DCT box exclusively.

The sedan variant pictured above will not be offered in Europe. It will instead be sold alongside the hatch in North America, and both will also employ a different base-spec powertrain.

Over in North America, it’s a slightly different story as the entry-level K4 variants for said market will instead employ a familiar naturally aspirated 2.0-litre 4-cyl petrol heart rated at 147 hp plus a CVT automatic box pairing.
Shared on both sides of the Atlantic though is the 1.6-litre 4-cyl turbo mill plus 7-speed DCT paring mentioned prior. A fully electrified hybrid choice is set to also join this range come 2026.
European (and UK) version hatch interior pictured. Kia says the K4 was designed to maximise rear legroom and bear high roofline, both aimed at maximising practicality.

On board, the Kia K4 sees its dash brimmed with a dual 12.3-inch digital displays housed into a single panel. The infotainment half of which brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and there are physical switches present still for key functions.
As detailed from its debut, the Kia K4 in both hatch and booted saloon forms prioritises practicality. Kia claims both were designed to maximise rear legroom and bear a high roofline to match, not forgetting a sizeable 438-litre boot space for the hatch too.
Non confirmation yet if the Kia K4 in either hatch and sedan forms will go on sale in the greater Asia Pacific market region yet.

For the European market, the new K4 hatch will be manufactured at Kia’s Žilina plant in Slovakia – the facility that formerly churned out its indirect predecessor the Ceed. As for North America, unit for which will be built in Mexico instead.
Europe, UK and North America aside, it remains unclear still if Kia intends to include the greater Asia Pacific region in this renewed push into the C-segment sedans and hatchbacks space.
