Previewed: Deepal S07 EV SUV – Q2 2025 Launch, New Model Y Rival?

Chinese automaker Changan is slated to enter the Malaysian market with its midsize EV SUV, the Deepal S07.
Another year, another new automotive brand coming into the foray, and this time around it's the Chinese automaker Changan with the Deepal S07. Set to arrive later in Q2 2025, this midsize EV SUV will be officially distributed by Bermaz Changan, a new subsidiary formed by Bermaz Auto Berhad (BAuto).

The S07 is one of the two Deepal models confirmed for Malaysia, with the second one being the smaller S05. In terms of dimension, the S07 is positioned as the brand’s midsize EV SUV, measuring 4,750 MM long, 1,930 MM wide, 1,625 MM tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,900 MM. This puts the S07 on par with other midsize EV SUVs such as the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, Leapmotor C10, and its Bermaz stablemate, the Xpeng G6.

In terms of styling, the S07 adopts a pretty sporty, coupe-ish SUV bodystyle, featuring tons of sharp lines and angular design elements. Key exterior equipment primed here include split LED headlights with an X-shaped front bumper design, full-width LED taillights with an illuminated Deepal logo, 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels, and a coupe-style roofline, to name a few.

On board, the S07 gets a pretty decent list of equipment and tons of space, thanks to its strictly five-seater, two-row layout. Some tech amenities present here include a 15.6-inch central infotainment display powered by the Snapdragon 8155 chip, an augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD), a two-spoke steering wheel, bucket-style front seats with powered and ventilated functions, a multi-zone A/C system with a dedicated rear control panel, and an expansive panoramic glass roof.

As of now, neither Bermaz Changan nor BAuto have confirmed how many variants of the S07 will be offered for our market. For reference, the Thai market, which already welcomed the S07, gets two variants of this EV SUV, with the baseline Standard Range model using a 66.8-kWh NMC battery pack that grants it up to 485 KM of NEDC range. Powering the S07 Standard Range is a single, rear-mounted (RWD) electric motor that outputs 255 HP and 320 NM, allowing the S07 to blast from 0-100 KM/H in 7.6 seconds and a V-Max of 180 KM/H.
Next is the range-topping S07 L, which gets a larger 79.97-kWh NMC battery pack that juiced its de-tuned single-motor RWD powertrain setup to deliver 215 HP, thus slowing down its century sprint time to 7.9 seconds in favour of a longer maximum travel range of 560 KM (NEDC).
Regardless of variants, both the S07 and S07 L only support DCFC at up to 92 kW, which sees the latter’s 30-80% charging time expanded to 35 minutes, while AC charging is capped at 11 kW for both variants.

Bermaz Changan has indirectly confirmed that the Deepal S07 will make its Malaysian debut sometime later in Q2 this year, where it will be the first model for the automaker. Given that the Xpeng G6 is positioned as the more premium offering from the group, perhaps we can expect the Deepal S07 to be the more affordable option.
