Xpeng’s flagship MPV, the X9, has just gained an EREV variant in China, featuring over 1,600 km of combined range.

Months after the updated model made its debut, the Xpeng X9 MPV has now gained a new extended-range EV (EREV) variant in China. Besides several visual and equipment adjustments over the battery electric (BEV) version, the new X9 EREV also debuts the brand’s new Kunpeng Super Range Extension range-extender technology, which promises to deliver over 1,600 km of comprehensive travel range.

The combustion element of this new EREV system comes in the form of a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine (codename: DAM15NTE) that is rated at 110 kW (150 PS) by itself. And just like the EV version, the X9 EREV did underpin an 800-volt battery architecture that supports 5C super-fast charging capabilities.

While no official details were given for now, CarNewsChina reported that the turbocharged engine is mated to a sizable 63.3-kWh battery pack that can deliver up to 452 km of EV-only range under the more lenient CLTC standards. Combined with its 60-litre fuel tank, the X9 EREV is said to deliver up to 1,602 km of comprehensive range, plus a low fuel consumption rate of 6.4 litre/100 km.

On the visual front, the new X9 EREV does look quite similar to its BEV twin, albeit featuring some minute details. Up front, it still retains the same dual-stack LED headlight design, plus a closed front grille with vertical side vents and a dual-segment air intake with active shutters.

From the side, the EREV model still rocks the “mecha-futuristic” side profile look with sculpted side door panels and flared-out wheel arches while riding on 20-inch alloy wheels. The rear end is also more or less the same as the BEV model, with the only notable difference being the new “PowerX” badge located below the X9 emblem.

Dimension-wise, the X9 EREV spans 5,316 mm long, 1,988 mm wide, and 1,785 mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm, thus making it slightly bigger than the BEV version.

As of now, Xpeng has yet to unveil any details regarding both the interior and the pricing for the new X9 EREV but confirmed that it would feature the same “Zero-Gravity” seats in the second row. Deliveries in native China are slated to begin sometime later in Q4 this year, and there is no confirmation yet on whether this will be a global offering from the automaker.
