Porsche Cayenne Electric Debuts As Brand’s Most Powerful Model With 1,140 hp!

Earlier today, German sportscar marque Porsche finally took the wraps off its highly anticipated new Cayenne Electric offering. The marque has been teasing its new flagship electric (EV) SUV for months now, and it looks like it was worth the wait.

We’ll also point out that it is positioned as a ‘new generation’ model, making this the fourth such iteration for said nameplate. Moreover, it marks the first time in the Cayenne’s history to arrive solely as an EV with no combustion (ICE) twin in sight yet.

At launch, the Cayenne Electric sees two guises available - base Cayenne electric and a range-topping Cayenne Turbo Electric.

Firstly, the Cayenne Electric – Porsche’s third EV model after the Taycan and Macan – now stands as the famed German sportscar marque’s most powerful model ever as it boasts a combined output of 1,140 hp (1,156 PS) and 1,500 Nm in range-topping Cayenne Turbo Electric guise.

In turn, said range-topper brimmed with dual e-motors and all-wheel-drive (AWD) sees 0-100 km/h dashes done in just 2.5 secs, 0-200 km/h in 7.4 secs, and it will hit a claimed V-max of 260 km/h too. Mind you, said peak outputs are granted when the Cayenne Turbo Electric is set in Launch Control mode.

Up to 1,140 hp and 1,500 Nm is available in the Cayenne Turbo Electric, making it the most powerful model ever built by Porsche.

Otherwise, said range-topper yields roughly 844 hp (857 PS) for normal driving, whilst a dedicated Push-to-Pass boost mode, which is accessible via a button on the steering wheel, brings an additional 173 hp (177 PS) boost for about 10 seconds – perfect for overtaking moves.

As for the ‘regular’ or baseline Cayenne Electric guise, it’s far from ‘tame’ too with 402 hp (408 PS) and 835 Nm available for regular driving from its dual-motor setup. This is boosted up to 435 hp (442 PS) with Launch Control activated, thus allowing for 0-100 km/h sprints in just 4.8 secs before hitting a V-max of 230 km/h.

With both, Porsche touts ‘Formula E-levels’ of brake energy recuperation as it feeds up to 600 kW back to the battery. Porsche further notes roughly 97% of routine braking situations never need involve physical brakes, though customers can still elect to prime their Cayenne Electric with PCCB carbon rotors if they so wished.

As for handling, the Cayenne Electric rides on adaptive air suspension brimmed as standard across both guises, whilst rear-axle steering and the Porsche Active Ride suite with active anti-roll bars are both optionally available. Only the Turbo gains a torque-vectoring rear diff to boot.

All guises get adaptive air suspension, but only the Turbo gains a torque-vectoring rear diff. Optionally available across both are rear-axle steering plus the Porsche Active Ride suite.

Moving to the battery, the 113 kWh pack both variants employ are housed within an 800-volt electrical architecture of the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) base. With improved cooling, it can accommodate up to 400 kW of DC fast-charging inputs under ideal conditions and enable 10-80% re-charges in 16 minutes.

As detailed prior, the Cayenne Electric also introduces wireless inductive charging tech. Owners opting for this tech need only pull up and park over a dedicated floor pad and it automatically starts charging itself at a rate of 11 kW.

Another trick tech from the Cayenne Electric is its 11 kW wireless inductive charging feature.

As for maximum ranges, the German marque touts WLTP-rated figures of 642 KM for the base Cayenne Electric, and up to 623 KM for the range-topping Cayenne Turbo Electric.

Underpinning the PPE platform base mentioned, the Cayenne Electric is essentially a ‘scaled up’ Macan Electric in many sense – it sits 130 MM longer than which to offer a sizeable 3,020 MM wheelbase.

Despite sharing the same PPE platform base, the Cayenne Electric offers a larger and more spacious cabin versus the Macan Electric.

The latter explains the larger and spacious cabin the Cayenne Electric boasts over its Macan Electric sibling, offering more legroom for rear passengers. Electric seat adjustment comes as standard, as does a massive panoramic roof that uses liquid-crystal tech to alter its opacity.

The tech experience is also on a high level thanks to the new Flow Display suite spanning across the dash with two large OLED screens – one serving as the digital instrument gauge whilst another larger panel serves as the infotainment touchscreen. Optionally available here is a third 14.9-inch passenger display too.

Brimmed in the dash is a new Flow Display suite that brings two massive OLED panels and an optional third passenger display.

These pale in contrast to the mammoth 87-inch head-up display (HUD) suite bolstered by augmented reality (AR) guidance display function built into which. Other tech highlights include a new AI-driven ‘Voice Pilot’, as well as an uprated app system with both gaming and streaming content included.

Thankfully, Porsche also kept a slew of physical switches and buttons to control both the climate control and infotainment volume.

13 exterior paint options, along with 9 wheel design choices ranging from 20-22 inch sizes, as well as 12 interior looks plus 5 interior packages are available at launch.

At launch, the Cayenne Electric sees 13 exterior paint options on offer, followed by 9 wheel design choices ranging from 20 to 22 inch sizes, followed by no less than 12 interior looks plus 5 interior packages.

Though orders are enow opened, country-specific prices remain unavailable still at the time of writing. North American prices are however available, at they reportedly start at US$109,000 (RM453,930) for the base Cayenne Electric, and from US$163,000 (RM678,813) for the range-topping Cayenne Turbo Electric.

Deliveries, on the other hand, are slated to commence early next year.
