MINI Convertible

The 2025 MINI Convertible is a four-seat soft-top performance hatch that concentrates MINI's go-kart character into a zero-emission package. Its Malaysian range covers distinct outputs and batteries, so buyers can prioritise price, range or performance without confusing it with the Aceman or Countryman Electric.

Inside, a 240 mm circular OLED above a textile-trimmed dashboard. Physical controls are deliberately reduced, but the key driving functions stay on the toggle bar.

The centre is organised around a compact toggle bar for gear selection, start, parking brake and Experience Modes. The open layout frees useful storage underneath instead of using a bulky transmission tunnel.

Rather than a separate binnacle, the circular OLED acts as cluster, infotainment and roof-timer display, with head-up display available. Essential speed and assistance data remain in the driver's eyeline.

Occupants get sport front seats in Vescin or textile combinations, with heating and JCW bolstering by variant. The low driving position and generous adjustment suit the model's sporting brief.

Cabin practicality is four seats; front occupants are comfortable, while rear knee room is tight and roof mechanism reduces luggage capacity. This is clearly the intimate MINI EV, not a substitute for the larger Aceman or Countryman Electric.

The driver uses multifunction controls for cruise, media, voice and assistance systems. The compact rim and direct rack help the car feel alert around town.

Everyday items fit into door bins, glovebox and small console trays; rear-seat folding expands utility. There is no large traditional centre armrest bin, so organisation is best for smaller belongings.

Drink storage consists of two front cupholders and small rear passenger storage. The arrangement is adequate for two front occupants but limited for rear passengers.

Device power is handled by USB-C charging and a wireless phone tray on higher grades. Cable-free phone charging integrates neatly with the circular-display interface.

Cabin execution features a well-braced body, quality fabric roof and distinctive textile surfaces maintain premium feel despite open-top packaging. The woven dash surface is distinctive, though the sparse layout depends heavily on the central screen.

At about 3,879 mm long, 1,744 mm wide and 1,431 mm tall, on a 2,495 mm wheelbase, the MINI Convertible stays genuinely compact for dense Malaysian streets and parking bays. The short wheelbase also explains its nimble response and modest rear cabin.

The front is defined by round LED headlamps, octagonal grille and short overhangs. It looks cleaner than the outgoing hatch yet remains instantly recognisable as a MINI.

At the back, a near-vertical boot panel, Union Jack-inspired LED lamps and a fabric roof stack keep the design crisp. The upright hatch maximises the limited footprint.

The MINI Convertible uses LED headlamps with automatic high beam and selectable signatures on equipped cars. Automatic high beam is linked to the driver-assistance package.

Rear lighting comes from triangular LED lamps with configurable graphics. The animated graphics reinforce the car's digital theme without changing its compact proportions.

The car carries heated power-folding mirrors with integrated indicators. Their housings sit proud of the body, so the folding function is useful in narrow parking spaces.

Stopping hardware combines ventilated front discs, rear discs, ABS, stability control and performance tuning on JCW. Pedal feel blends energy recovery with the friction brakes, while selectable regeneration helps urban efficiency.

Malaysian cars use 17- or 18-inch alloys, including JCW-specific designs. Larger rims sharpen the stance but trade some ride compliance and range.

Core active-safety hardware includes ABS/EBD, stability and traction control, tyre-pressure monitoring and rollover protection systems. These systems operate alongside regenerative braking rather than replacing driver attention.

Passive protection comprises front/side airbags, reinforced windscreen frame and pop-up rollover protection. The compact rear bench is best suited to two occupants and includes proper child-seat anchors.

Core, Green and Go-Kart modes alter response, steering, graphics and sound. Each mode changes more than throttle response, also reshaping the OLED theme and cabin soundscape.

Infotainment runs MINI OS 9 with navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the 240 mm OLED. The round OLED is unusually sharp and responsive, and it also hosts climate and vehicle settings.

AEB, lane-departure warning, speed-limit information and parking sensors, with adaptive cruise and Parking Assistant Plus by package. Exact availability must be matched to the Malaysian variant rather than assumed across the range.

Sound is model-specific: higher Malaysian specification offers a 12-speaker, 365-watt Harman Kardon surround system calibrated for the convertible cabin. This is materially different from quoting a generic unbranded speaker setup.

Cooper S uses a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder with 201 hp and 300 Nm; JCW raises output to 228 hp and 380 Nm. These figures keep the three MINI Electric versions clearly separated.

Drive reaches the wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic drives the front wheels. Immediate torque makes the car feel brisk in stop-start traffic.

The layout is front-wheel drive with electronic traction management. It preserves familiar MINI handling while avoiding the weight and complexity of all-wheel drive.

Claimed acceleration is version-specific: 0-100 km/h takes about 6.9 seconds in Cooper S and 6.4 seconds in JCW. The JCW is meaningfully quicker, not merely a styling package.

Energy use and range centre on combined WLTP consumption is roughly 6.5-7.1 L/100 km depending on version and equipment. Real Malaysian motorway range will fall with speed, heat, passengers and aggressive climate use.

Daily-use features include the electrically operated fabric roof opens in about 18 seconds and can retract partially as a sunroof. Charging scheduling can take advantage of off-peak electricity, while pre-conditioning preserves cabin comfort before departure.

Ride character reflects the sporty chassis: body control is sporty and composed, though roofless structure and 18-inch wheels make rough roads more noticeable. The E and SE on smaller wheels are the more forgiving choices.

the multi-layer soft top suppresses wind well when raised, but open-roof cruising naturally brings more wind and traffic noise. Wind sealing is good for a small frameless-door hatch, but the quiet powertrain exposes surface noise that an engine would mask.
