Porsche Macan Electric

Highly-anticipated, the brand’s second Electric Vehicle (EV) release, the all-new Porsche Macan, officially launched in Malaysia.

A second-generation model fully-electrified, underpinning the e-SUV is Porsche’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture.

Fully-imported (CBU - Germany), available via Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP - Porsche Malaysia) are four variants (Macan - MYR 430,000, Macan 4 - MYR 445,000, Macan 4S - MYR 525,000, Macan Turbo - MYR 635,000).

Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) cover a two-year warranty and maintenance package, and an eight-year/160,000 KM high-voltage battery warranty. Optional warranty extensions (15 years - Porsche Malaysia).

Exterior colours (White, Black, Jet Black Mica, Ice Grey Metallic, Volcano Grey Metallic, Dolomite Silver Metallic, Provence, Gentian Blue Metallic, Frozen Blue Metallic, Papaya Metallic, Oak Green Metallic Neo, Aventurine Green Metallic, Copper Ruby Metallic, Slate Grey Neo).

Included (optional add-ons) are the Porsche Tequipment catalogue and Porsche Off-Road Design Package (front bumper, side skirts, roof rails, rims).

Labelled the ‘Porsche Driver Experience’, the all-new Macan features a tiered and modernised dashboard, linked to a high-rising centre console (touch-controls).

Soft-/hard-touched (leather, hard-panel - dash, centre console, steering wheel, doors), it sees a contrast-stitched (White) single-tone (Black) colour scheme.

Equipped are the screen displays (driver/central/passenger) and the Porsche Sport Chrono Clock, accentuated by an ambient lighting system (12 colours).

Inclusively, with a near-symmetrical layout, every accessibility is ergonomically arranged (user-friendly - driver-/passenger-oriented).

Part of the ‘Porsche Driver Experience’ setup, installed is a 12.6-Inch curved driver display (instrument cluster), featuring the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) software, running on the Android Automotive Operating System (Android Auto OS).

Included are customisable displays (Porsche Themes app - background colours), and an Augmented Reality (AR) head-up display (HUD).

Comfortably-premium, the interior sees leather upholstery in a contrast-stitched (White) single-tone (Black) colour scheme.

Tipping the scale at 2,220 KG (Macan), 2,330 KG (Macan 4), 2,345 KG (Macan 4S), and 2,405 KG (Macan Turbo), the all-new Macan stands at 4,784 MM long, 2,152 MM wide, 1,622 MM tall, and with a wheelbase spanning 2,893 MM.

Sportily-solid, it exudes a planted exterior, emphasised by cleanly-sculpted surfaces and sharply-curvaceous proportions.

A short-overhang, the front-end sees a side-raised/front-dipped bonnet (Porsche crest), roundly-muscular quarter panels, and an angular bumper (lower grille - Active Grille Shutter - AGS).

Accentuations are body cladding (Black - bumper, fenders, side sills), body trimming (Black - bumper lip, grille insert/surrounds, window surrounds), and side blades (body-colour-dependent - lower doors).

Commandingly-wide, it continues the planted silhouette, emphasised by horizontally-sculpted and smoothly-angular contours.

A short-overhang, the rear-end sees a coupe-esque roofline, a dipping tailgate (raked windscreen, Porsche script), a retractable spoiler (adaptive - middle tailgate), roundly-muscular quarter panels, and a cladded bumper (diffuser, exhaust-deleted).

Accentuations are body cladding (Black - bumper, fenders, side sills), body trimming (Black - diffuser, window surrounds), and side blades (body-colour-dependent - lower doors).

Angular with rounded edges, the headlamps are housed in a split design (lower - main, top - DRLs). Installed are full LED units (optional - Matrix LED).

Features are automatic On/Off/high-beam, welcome lights, sequential turn signals, ‘four-point’ LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), and Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS).

Sleek and slim, the tail lamps are in a three-dimensional lightbar design, housed equally full-width. Installed are full LED units.

The side mirrors (single-tone - body-colour) are electric-powered (auto-fold, adjust) with blind spot-indicators (Blind Spot Monitor - BSM), turn-signals, and automatic-dimming.

Fitted are internally-ventilated cast-iron (Grey) brake discs (front - six-piston aluminium monobloc fixed-calliper, rear - floating-calliper).

Entertainment is channelled via the Bose Surround Sound System (710 W, 14 speakers). 

Optional is the Burmester Surround Sound System (1,470 W, 21 speakers).

The all-new Macan harbours variant-specific e-powertrains.

Variant Macan nestles cruises with a single-motor (rear-mounted) setup (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor - PMSM), generating 250 KW/335 HP (265 KW/355 HP - Overboost Power-Launch Control) and 563 NM.

Variant Macan 4 embeds a double-motor (front-rear-mounted) setup (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor - PMSM), generating 285 KW/382 HP (300 KW/402 HP - Overboost Power-Launch Control) and 650 NM.

Variant Macan 4S fuses a double-motor (front-rear-mounted) setup (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor - PMSM), generating 330 KW/442 HP (380 KW/509 HP - Overboost Power-Launch Control) and 820 NM.

Variant Macan Turbo surges with a double-motor (front-rear-mounted) setup (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor - PMSM), generating 430 KW/576 HP (470 KW/630 HP - Overboost Power-Launch Control) and 1,130 NM.

Mated to the setups is a single-speed automatic transmission.

Variant Macan transmits power to the rear wheels, via a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) system.

Variants Macan 4 and Macan 4S transmit power to all four wheels, via an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system (electronically-controlled Porsche Traction Management - ePTM), and rear-axle steering (Macan 4S).

Variant Macan Turbo transmits power to all four wheels, via an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system (electronically-controlled Porsche Traction Management - ePTM), featuring Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), fully-variable-electronically-controlled rear-differential lock with fully-variable torque distribution, and rear-axle steering.

0 to 100 KM/H acceleration is done in 5.7 seconds (Macan), 5.2 seconds (Macan 4), 4.1 seconds (Macan 4S), and 3.3 seconds (Macan Turbo).

Top speed is electronically-capped at 220 KM/H (Macan, Macan 4), 240 KM/H (Macan 4S) and 260 KM/H (Macan Turbo).

Underpinned is Porsche’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture (800 V), featuring a Nickle Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery (100 KWH) pack juicing-up the e-motor setups.

Total driving range (WLTP) reads at 641 KM (Macan), 612 KM (Macan 4), 606 KM (Macan 4S), and 590 KM (Macan Turbo).

DC charging (CCS2 - 270 KW - 800 V) takes 21 minutes for a 10% to 80% State-Of-Charge (SoC). 

‘Twin-bank’ DC charging (CCS2 - 135 KW - 400 V - battery divided into two) takes 33 minutes for a 10% to 80% SoC.

AC charging (Type 2 - 11 KW) takes 10 hours for a 0% to 100% SoC via a home wallbox.

The seats are comfortable, especially with the amount of space the cabin provides. The power is sufficient with well-controlled composure and agile handling.

Variants Macan and Macan 4 are propped-up by a setup of steel-spring with hydraulic dampers suspension, featuring aluminium five-link axles (front, rear).

Variant Macan 4S is propped-up by a setup of steel-spring with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM - electronically-controlled damping system, two-valve dampers, continuous damper control, four manually-selectable modes), featuring aluminium five-link axles (front, rear).

Macan Turbo is propped-up by a setup of adaptive-single-chamber air suspension (self-levelling, height-adjustment) with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM - electronically-controlled damping system, two-valve dampers, continuous damper control, four manually-selectable modes), featuring aluminium five-link axles (front, rear).

Overall, very spacious with firm handling, suitable as a daily-driver. Inside and out, performance- and comfort-wise, ride quality is satisfactory.

Good sound insulation with the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) factored in. The cabin is acoustically well-designed, enhancing the in-car ambience.

Ultimately, the cabin is able to suppress unwanted noises well and make them barely noticeable even when cruising through bumpy asphalts. 

The all-new and fully-electrified Porsche Macan is built with a sophisticatedly sporty appeal, while still being able to offer space and practicality.

Beautifully-sculpted, the exterior is very well-designed, with clean and seamless lines donating a powerful overall demeanour. 

Premium-made, the quality of the equipment and materials installed inside, is also impressive with the upscale, mature design and restrained detailing.
