JKR Contraflow Along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari, 4PM-8PM Daily Until Congestion Issue Is Sorted

As much as the launch of the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) eased congestion along the dreaded Jalan Sungai Buloh connecting Puncak Alam towards Sungai Buloh, Kota Damansara and other vicinities along it, it too did bring on a fair share of issues. The biggest amongst these would be the bottleneck congestion along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari and at the Penchala DASH exit.

We had reported on the worsening of congestion along the Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari last week where Selangor’s Executive Council member (Exco) for Infrastructure, Public Facilities, Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry, Ir. Izham Hashim confirmed that RM35-million has been allocated by the state government to add three new vehicle lanes on Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari. Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) has been tasked to plan and undertake the expansion project but no start date has been announced yet.

With regards to the contraflow, part of the Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari B49 heading towards Shah Alam from Persimpangan Alam Budian till the DASH E31 border would be coned-off daily from 4PM to 8PM with hopes of easing the traffic congestion caused by the bottle neck.

This 3KM stretch is used by about 100,000 users daily and according to Kosmo sees users stuck for upto 3 hours at times. Some road users say that after the opening of DASH, they now have to leave to work as early as 6.30am to avoid being late and only get back home as late as 9pm. Adding to this is there are no alternative by-pass roads.

The assembly-man for the Jeram district, Mohd Shaid Rosli hopes the state government and JKR would expedite the road expansion process to improve matters. Adding to this is the fact that the Puncak Alam township is growing fast with new town-ships and housing projects being completed and an increase in population in the area.
