With production already delayed by two years, the Volvo EX90 flagship EV SUV will also see initial batches arriving to customers with a number of key tech features absent.

It appears that the initial batch of Volvo EX90 electric luxury SUVs set to arrive into customer hands soon will reportedly see several key tech features absent still. The Swedish marque had reportedly begun alerting customers worldwide who are set to receive them about these absent features.

This is the latest setback for Volvo’s newest flagship offering that’s made at its American plant in Charleston, South Carolina. Much of this  stems from ongoing software issues, but the firm doesn't expect the delay of the features to hurt the EX90's sales.

Despite these new setback, Volvo downplayed any notion of said issued affecting pre-bookings or pre-orders for the EX90.

"We don't see any major loss of pre-bookings or pre-orders as a result of updating the car's software as it gets further into its journey," downplays brand CEO Jim Rowan.

Volvo has listed out the features that won’t be available in this initial batch of deliveries online. Amongst them is the EX90's lidar system; namely two Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS) programs that improve safety at intersections.

Amongst the features not enabled at first include the EX90's Lidar, along with two ADAS features designed to enhance intersection safety.

Also unavailable at the start is the EX90’s ability to transfer excess energy from the vehicle to the home; and the removal of a requirement to run the car's core system in the background even when parked, which drains the battery by 3% every 24 hours.

In fact, the EV SUV won’t have the ability to access an iPhone via Siri voice commands too. Nevertheless, the brand has promised that all these features will be enabled later via over-the-air (OTA) updates that upgrades its software.

Volvo reiterates that these missing features will be enabled later through OTA updates that upgrades the EX90's software.

"The whole point of a software-defined vehicle that has over-the-air update capabilities is to continually upgrade that software. We can do that," says CEO Rowan.

He added his belief that customers investing in advanced tech products like the EX90 understand this, and that they will reap the benefits of which over time.
