- New Chery Tiggo 7 Sport Leaks, Shows Off New Land Rover-Inspired Look
By now, most of us are aware that Land Rover has a joint venture with Chery Auto Group in China, resulting in some strikingly similar designs between Chery vehicles and the British luxury marque, but at a more affordable price point. A recent example of this is the Jaecoo J7, which was recently launched in Malaysia.
However the latest model to get the "Land Rover treatment" is the all-new Chery Tiggo 7 Sport, designed specifically for the Chinese market. Although the name sounds similar, this is not the Tiggo 7 Pro available in Malaysia, though we know some of us secretly wish it was.
According to CarNewsChina, the Land Rover-inspired Chery Tiggo 7 Sport is set to be launched in Sept, with units already spotted at Chery dealerships there. The Tiggo 7 Sport’s design bears a strong resemblance to a Land Rover, especially at the front.
The mesh grille looks almost as if it could be straight off a British off-roader, complemented by similar air inlet designs, a narrow bumper, and skid plate. The daytime running lights also echo those found on the Range Rover Evoque.
Although it’s called the Chery Tiggo 7, the Sport does not resemble the Pro version, sharing more similarities with the Jaecoo J7 instead. In fact, recent information from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) indicates that both the Jaecoo J7 and the Tiggo 7 Sport have similar front grille design options offered to customers.
The side profile of the two cars is also quite similar, featuring hidden door handles and roof racks. However, the Tiggo 7 Sport is more urban-oriented, despite its sporting external storage compartment mounted between the C and D-pillars.
Inside, the Chery Tiggo 7 Sport features an interior nearly identical to the Jaecoo J7 which includes a floating instrument cluster panel, a large vertical infotainment screen, a chunky gear selector, and through-type air conditioning vents.
While the powertrain details for the Chery Tiggo 7 Sport have not been officially announced, it’s safe to assume that it will feature a similar setup as the Jaecoo J7. This likely means it will be equipped with a 1.6 T turbocharged engine, producing 192 HP and 290 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox.
The Chery Tiggo 7 Sport is expected to be priced around RMB 100,000 (approximately RM 61,000).
