Proton e.MAS 7 Set to Make Public Debut At The Merdeka Parade
Proton e.MAS 7, the nation’s first all-electric vehicle, is slated to make its first public debut at the upcoming Merdeka parade.
The upcoming Merdeka Day Parade is about to get more exciting for local automotive fans as national automaker Proton is about to showcase its first all-electric model, the Proton e.MAS 7. This will also mark the first public appearance for the nation’s first EV model since its initial preview event earlier this month.
For this year’s Merdeka parade, the new e.MAS 7 will be joined alongside other historic Proton models as part of the special 25-car contingent set up by the national automaker. Unlike the e.MAS 7 previewed to us prior, this particular unit will sport a unique camouflage motif that represents the four main colours of the Malaysian flag, Jalur Gemilang.

More on this special 25-car parade by Proton, it will showcase all the essential models from the automaker’s 41 years of history, ranging from the original Proton Saga to the newly-launched 2025 Proton X70 facelift. The Merdeka Day parade also poses an excellent opportunity for Proton to showcase the progress it has made over the last four decades.
Proton CEO Dr. Li Chunrong
“While celebrating our past, Proton is also mindful to look ahead into the future of the automotive industry. Hence, we took the decision to include the Proton e.MAS 7 in our parade lineup, though it has not been launched, to allow everyone to get a closer look at the company’s first EV model. As the model is not the final production vehicle, it will be displayed wearing camouflage, but in the National Day spirit, we have chosen colours that represent Malaysia’s flag,” said Proton CEO Dr. Li Chunrong.
Ever since its initial preview earlier this month, the Proton e.MAS 7 has garnered waves of public interest, as most of them are geared and excited to watch the nation’s first all-electric vehicle to hit the local market. Ahead of its planned debut later in Q4 this year, Proton has been busy testing out and prepping the car, as several camouflage units have been spotted roaming down the Malaysian roads in recent weeks.
“The e.MAS 7 is not only Proton’s first EV, but it is also the first Proton model developed concurrently with the team at Geely. This allows for much shorter lead times in making RHD versions available and also results in greater efficiencies and sharing of development costs. The ultimate proof of success for this undertaking will be the reception of buyers in Malaysia and our export markets, and to ensure a favourable outcome, Proton is leaving no stone unturned in the model’s development, marketing, sales, and after-sales efforts,” Dr. Li added.
