Volvo XC90 SUV Set for Yet Another Facelift This September
Volvo is set to give its beloved XC90 SUV yet another facelift treatment, set to be unveiled later in Sept 4.
It’s been almost a decade since Volvo introduced the second-gen XC90, and this beloved SUV model is still going strong despite now being pitted against newer and fancier adversaries. As the model enters its tenth year in production, Volvo has decided to give the XC90 yet another facelift treatment, thus further increasing the longevity of this three-row SUV.
Described as the “new iteration of the hybrid SUV," the new XC90 will be positioned as the semi-electrified alternative to the all-electric EX90 instead of the EV SUV being the EV alternative to the former.
The upcoming 2025 XC90 is expected to be “substantially refreshed," featuring some extensive exterior and interior makeovers. In their official statement, Volvo insisted that it would be a major facelift instead of a new-generation model launch.

To go along with the statement, Volvo also published a single teaser image of the new XC90, showcasing the SUV’s hood from top down. From said image, we can clearly see that the updated XC90 will feature a more sculpted hood, with the signature Thor’s hammer LED headlights still visible.
Apart from the design upgrade, we can also expect the facelifted XC90 to get some minor mechanical changes, possibly an improvement on its EV-related specs and numbers, as well as several upgrades on its safety features.
Volvo EX90 EV SUV
Launched back in 2022, the EX90 was initially meant to be the all-electric successor to the XC90, as the model underpins an EV-specific platform developed by Geely. Immediately after making its global debut, the EX90 is riddled with several issues, which have prompted Volvo to delay its production until June this year.
Production delays aside, the Swedish marque’s decision to refresh its beloved hybrid SUV may also have to do with the recent decline of global EV sales, thus prompting automakers like Volvo and others to dial back their EV adoption plans and opt for hybrids instead.
The new 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift is slated to make its debut later in Sept 4 at Volvo’s 90/90 Day celebration. Besides the debut of the new XC90, Volvo said that the celebration will “mark a big moment in the launch of the EX90," and the automaker may also have some surprises for us all. Until then, we can expect to learn more about the new XC90 once we get closer to the launch date.
