- ECRL 80% Complete, Shifting To Above-Ground Work
The East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) project has achieved nearly 80% completion as of February. The 665-kilometer rail network, which connects the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Selangor, has largely progressed from underground construction to above-ground infrastructure, and the installation of systems is underway throughout the entire route.
The ECRL project is expected to be completed by 2027, and this critical phase will accelerate progress toward that goal. Kong Qi, managing director of China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCC-ECRL), said that the project's success can be attributed to the ongoing commitment of local partners.
“Their expertise, resilience, and adherence to high industry standards have been instrumental in driving progress," he says in a NST report.
The project, with a total allocation of RM74.96 billion, comprising RM50.27 billion designated for construction and RM24.69 billion for supplemental development expenditures, is projected to serve as a significant driver for economic advancement and sustainable development across key sectors.
The rail network will feature twenty stations distributed throughout the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Selangor.
