Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) officially announced today that Registration of Interest (ROI) for both thew new Volvo EX90 flagship EV SUV and its heavily revised new XC90 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) luxury SUV twin are now opened.

The firm did not confirm exact launch dates for either, but this is expected to take place in the coming months – possibly just after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities at the earliest. Instead, the firm elected to confirm several initial details, key amongst which being the 7-seat layout for both models.

For the EX90 in particular, Malaysia will be the second market in Asia to receive the Swedish marque’s newest flagship EV SUV after Thailand. Besides its three-row seating configuration mentioned, the EX90 will also arrive locally primed with a tonne of new and sophisticated tech.

Leading the bill for the latter is an advanced Lidar sensor, which will power the bulk of the EV SUV’s Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) features primed aboard, thus promising not just to mitigate accidents, but avoid them altogether too, touts VCM.

Adding to which, the EX90 will also arrive in Malaysia primed with the Volvo Cars Superset core computing tech. As a refresher, the EX90 is the first model from the Swedish marque to feature this hardware built to anticipate fully autonomous driving abilities.

VCM also confirmed that the EX90 will arrive in seven-seat, three-row configuration on board.

VCM didn’t confirm technical specs, but EX90 should arrive with a 111 kWh battery pack, plus a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup. Depending on trimline, the latter either puts out 408 HP and 770 NM (Twin Motor) or 517 HP and 910 NM (Twin Motor Performance).

Critically, the most efficient form of the EX90 (Twin Motor) promises a WLTP-rated maximum range of up to 600 KM. As for charging, the EX90 accepts both 11 kW AC and up to 250 kW DC inputs, the latter promising 10-80% re-charges in just 30 minutes too.

Also set for arrival soon is the heavily revised Volvo XC90 PHEV SUV.

Moving to the heavily revised second-generation XC90, this PHEV SUV is set to arrive with a significantly improved powertrain package comprised of a 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbo petrol mill augmented by a new e-motor and battery setup, which promises an WLTP-rated electric range of 70 KM.

The new XC90 should also arrive with improved air suspension and sound insulation, plus a slew of distinct design and aesthetic improvements inside and out. Though unconfirmed for now, this revised XC90 is also expected to be locally assembled (CKD) like its predecessor.

VCM also confirmed the XC90 PHEV will arrive with a seven-seat layout like the EX90.

“Regardless of whether you want the best-ever safety technology in a fully electric vehicle, or whether you want to upgrade to the latest version of our iconic SUV awarded multiple times over, there is a ‘90’ flagship model to best suit your life and your lifestyle,” says Chris Wailes, MD of VCM.

Presently, keen prospects can register their interest for either the new Volvo EX90 and the revised Volvo XC90 online via the firm’s official website – volvocars.com/my/. Details will also be announced via VCM’s official Facebook and Instagram pages too.
