Earlier today, Isuzu Malaysia revealed via press release that the Isuzu D-Max pick-up truck has charted its highest ever local market share. According to the firm, sales of the model in the first quarter (Q1) of this year saw it capture an 18.3% share of the local pick-up truck market segment.

Said figure marks a healthy increase versus the same period last year where the D-Max captured 14% of the market segment  – in other words, sales of the D-Max saw a healthy year-on-year gain, and it comes despite renewed challenges for local pick-up truck and diesel vehicle sales.

As a refresher, the latter largely stems from the substantially increased price of diesel fuels in Malaysia that resulted from said fuel type’s subsidy rationalisation by the government starting from the middle of last year.

Isuzu Malaysia CEO Kenkichi Sogo notd the firm recorded a growing number of buyers who've discovered the merits of owning and driving the D-Max.

“What we have clearly seen is a growing number of buyers who have discovered the merits of owning and driving an Isuzu D-Max," remarked Isuzu Malaysia CEO Kenkichi Sogo.

Isuzu Malaysia continued by detailing that the D-Max model’s market share in Peninsular Malaysia has risen sharply from 12.1% last year (2024) to 17.1% this year. Market share in East Malaysia, on the other hand, has long stood as a ‘fixed deposit’ for the firm, charting as high as 28.4%.

Besides that, the firm also noted sales are driven largely by three of model’s core 1.9-litre variants, namely the 1.9 4x4 Auto Premium, 1.9 Auto Standard, and 1.9 Auto Plus. Collectively, this trio make up 72.7% of the D-Max model’s total sales here in Malaysia.

Isuzu Malaysia adds that much of the D-Max model's sales in Malaysia are driven by its core 1.9-litre variants, namely the 1.9 Auto 4x4 Premium, 1.9 Auto Standard, and 1.9 Auto Plus guises.

“The D-Max’s exceptionally low running cost, superior dependability and cheap road tax ensures that customers still come out with a winning hand,” emphasised CEO Sogo further.

For reference, the current face-lifted iteration of the Isuzu D-Max was launched back in May 2024 with five variants on offer priced from RM98,949.20. Earlier this year, the range grew with a newly added Low-Ride 4x2 MT variant priced from RM92,199.20.

And besides its proven, record-breaking frugality, Isuzu Malaysia also offers the D-Max with a reassuring five-year warranty coverage. Isuzu Malaysia also pride’s on the D-Max model’s renowned low running costs, which even includes a highly affordable sub-RM400 annual road tax in Peninsular Malaysia.
