The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced a temporary shortage in the supply of physical Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) slips due to a technical malfunction at the supplier's facility.

As of April 16, JPJ’s main storage facility holds only 40,000 slips - the amount being amount insufficient to meet nationwide monthly demand.

According to a statement from the Director of Vehicle Licensing, Tuan Othman bin Mohamed Nazari, the shortage is the result of a damaged hologram printing machine operated by the department’s supplier, Percetakan Keselamatan Negara (PKN).

Repair efforts are currently underway and are expected to take about two weeks before printing operations can resume.

To manage the limited supply, JPJ will implement temporary control measures starting from April 18until May 18. During this period, Malaysians renewing their road tax will only be allowed to do so through digital means via the eLKM system, unless they are travelling abroad.

Physical LKM slips can still be obtained after May 18 by presenting the transaction receipt.

For non-citizen vehicle owners, company-owned vehicles, commercial vehicles, and other categories not supported by the MyJPJ app, physical LKM printing will continue as usual. Additionally, all LKM renewals conducted at JPJ kiosks will be restricted to digital issuance without physical slips during this time.

JPJ has instructed its state branches to monitor and report their LKM slip stock levels daily to headquarters. The department is also working to resolve the supply issue as quickly as possible, while developing long-term strategies to prevent future disruptions.

The public is encouraged to utilise the MyJPJ app or the JPJ portal for their LKM renewals and to contact the nearest JPJ branch for further assistance.
