The Ministry of Transport has announced that 13 stop-and-go bus routes operating as BAS.MY KOTA SETAR under the Bus Assistance Service (BAS) have been gradually deployed beginning June 1, 2025, with a projected monthly passenger capacity of 28,000.

This initiative is part of Kedah's Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) Program with an allocation of RM 80 million for a service period of (5) years or equivalent to RM16 million per year to improve the quality of stop-and-go bus services in the state.

BAS.MY Kota Setar offers intra-city routes with 30-minute service intervals and inter-district routes with 60- to 90-minute intervals, according to the ministry.

Key destinations served include Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Pekan Rabu, Stadium Darul Aman, UTC Kedah, UiTM Merbok, POLIMAS, KTM Alor Setar, KTM Sungai Petani, Terminal Shahab Perdana, Sultan Abdul Halim Airport, Kuala Kedah Jetty, Pantai Merdeka and Sungai Petani.

“A total of 48 new buses of ‘midi’ and low-floor mini types are being used. These new low-floor buses make boarding and alighting easier and are disabled-friendly. They are also equipped with modern technology such as cashless payment systems and closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to enhance passenger safety,” it said.

To enhance accessibility, the government provides free fares via the BAS.MY Concession Card. This program covers senior citizens, persons with disabilities, schoolchildren, and students in universities, polytechnics, community colleges, and matriculation.
