One of the surprise launches today at My BMW World 2025 came in the form of the new seventh-gen (G90) BMW M5 super-saloon.

Ahead of its public day that starts tomorrow, My BMW World 2025 opened with a special press preview. As expected, BMW Group Malaysia unveiled a raft of new metal, including some brand-new ones that weren’t hinted prior.

We’ll start with arguably the most exciting of the latter, and its none other than the new seventh-generation BMW M5 super saloon. Bearing its new G90 chassis code, the new M5 arrives locally as the nameplate's most powerful iteration ever built thanks to its electrified powertrain.

The new G90-gen M5 stands as the most power iteration of M5 model nameplate ever built, boasting 727 HP and 1,000 NM outputs that enable century sprints in 3.5 secs.

We’ve detailed the new M5 at length prior, so we’ll be brief in this local launch report. As a refresher, the first BMW M5 that requires plugging-in merges both a 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol heart with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) e-motor and battery setup.

Altogether, there’s 727 HP and a whopping 1,000 NM available to drive all four wheels via an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic box and M xDrive all-wheel-drive (AWD) to despatch 0-100 KM/H sprints in just 3.5 secs.

V-max is capped at 250 KM/H as standard, or at 305 KM/H with the M Driver’s Package.

The G90 M5 merges both a 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol mill with an e-motor and 18.6 kWh battery pack.

The first ever M5 that requires plugging in supports 11 kW AC charging inputs, and this sees full re-charges done in 3 hrs 15 mins.

Before you ask, the PHEV setup does grant up to 69 KM of electric-only range (WLTP), whilst its 18.6 kWh battery pack supports 11 kW AC charging inputs and sees full re-charges attained in about 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Other key performance hardware primed include multi-mode Adaptive M Suspension, Integral Active Steering that brings rear-wheel-steering to the M5 as standard for the first time, as well as an M Sport exhaust system.

On board, the G90 BMW M5 largely mirrors the G60 5 Series here, albeit with a sportier twist. Altogether, there are four Merino leather upholstery colour options available too.

On board, the M5 – predictably – has all the high-tech and luxurious amenities expected of any offering that bears the famed Bavarian crest. In short, much the G90 M5’s innards largely mirror what you’ll find in the eighth-gen (G60) 5 Series.

Highlights include the BMW Live Cockpit Professional and Augmented View, Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant, Driving Assistant Plus, the very latest BMW Operating System 8.5, and more.

Whilst here, it’s also worth noting that the G90-gen BMW M5 sees a total of four Merino leather upholstery colour options available - Black, Silverstone, Red, and Kyalami Orange. These are matched with M-specific stitching and precision-crafted trim too.

As for exterior colours, the G90-gen BMW M5 for Malaysia sees a total of eight hues on offerAlpine White, Sophisto Grey, Fire Red, Brooklyn Grey, Carbon Black, Isle of Man Green, Marina Bay Blue, and Storm Bay.

We cap this report with price, BMW Group Malaysia has tagged the latest-gen BMW M5 with a base price of RM1,188,800. Said price raises to RM1,247,900 with the BMW Service & Repair Inclusive package added in.

Sit tight as we bring more launch reports from My BMW World 2025.
