- Gemas-JB Rail Project Set To Start Full Service This Month

The Gemas to Johor Bahru Electrified Double Track project is almost finished, with final work expected to wrap up by the end of Nov. The RM8.9 billion line spans 192 kilometers, connecting Segamat, Kluang, Kulai, and Johor Baru.
Johor state committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh told assemblyman N. Saraswati that the electric train service has been introduced in stages.
“As the project progresses, the electric train service has been activated in stages to benefit the public,” he said.

ETS service began from Kuala Lumpur to Segamat in March with four daily trips, extended to Kluang in Aug, and extra weekend trips were added from Oct.
Full service to Johor Bahru is expected in Dec, with 12 daily trips, including eight between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Baru and two each on Johor Baru-Padang Besar and Johor Baru-Butterworth routes.
Fazli noted the service would improve travel for commuters, students, and workers along the corridor.

“With faster, more comfortable and cost-effective travel options, the service will provide the public with greater mobility choices,” he stated, adding that the expansion of the ETS network to Johor Bahru will strengthen the region’s economy.
