Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Datsun 240Z Timepieces Now In Malaysia – From RM4,500

Yes, you read that right - the Seiko x Datsun 240Z special series is now officially available in Malaysia with five exquisite timepiece models.

Revealed globally back in Aug this year, the special series of Seiko Prospex Speedtimer timepieces that pays homage to the legendary Datsun 240Z is now officially available in Malaysia.

In a press release issued earlier today, local Seiko timepiece brand distributors Thong Sia Sdn Bhd announced that all five models from this special series can now be viewed and purchase through official retailers locally.

Fun fact: Both the Datsun 240Z and the first ever Seiko Speedtimer were released in the same year - 1969.

As a refresher, this special range of Japanese watchmaker Seiko’s signature Prospex Speedtimer series pays homage to the legendary Datsun 240Z sports coupe and rally car from 1969. Coincidentally, that was also the same year that Seiko released its first Speedtimer model.

The range firstly consists of the SPB513, SPB515 and SPB517 models powered by a Caliber 6R55 automatic movement, the SRQ055 and SRQ057 duo featuring the Caliber 8R48 automatic movement, as well as the SSC957 model powered by a Caliber V192 heart.

The SPB513, SPB515 and SPB517 trio pictured all share the same Caliber 8R48 automatic movement constructed with 24 jewels encased in a 39.5 MM case, boasting a 72-hour power reserve plus 20 Bar water resistance.

For the SP513, SP515 and SPB517 trio, their shared movement hearts are constructed with 24 jewels and boasts a power reserve lasting up 72 hours. They also feature a sizeable 39.5 MM case diameter with water resistance of up to 20 Bar.

The differences lie in their individual dial face designs, as well as the choice between metal bracelet (SP513 and SP515) and leather (SPB517) straps. Additionally, amongst this three, the leather-strapped SPB517 model is limited to just 2,500 pieces worldwide.

From this trio, the SPB517 model pictured stands as the rarest with just 2,500 pieces available worldwide, each priced at RM6,000.

In terms of price, both the metal-strapped models in this series share the same RM4,700 retail price tag. Naturally, the limited (numbered) leather-strapped SP517 model commands a higher price tag of RM6,000 apiece.

Next comes the SRQ055 and SRQ057 chronograph models that feature a 42 MM-sized case with a 10-Bar water resistance rating.

Moving to the SRQ055 and SRQQ057 models, their shared automatic movement boasts an additional chronograph function and display set atop a black dial face encased in an equally sizeable 42 MM diameter case boasting 10-Bar water resistance.

The adoption of either a metal or leather straps sets this duo apart, but again it’s the leather-strapped model (SRQ057) here that has the coveted numbered limited edition status – just 500 pieces worldwide.

Not only the priciest of the lot at RM16,500 apiece, the leather-strapped SRQ057 chronograph model from this series is also the rarest of the lot with just 500 pieces available globally.

As for price, the metal-strapped SRQ055 model commands RM13,000, whereas the limited SRQ057 is listed with a higher figure of RM16,500 apiece.

Also part of this special series is the SSC957 model pictured, and it rocks a more striking aesthetics featuring red, black and silver hues in its 41.4 MM case.

Last but certainly not the least comes the SSC957 model. Besides a chronograph function and display, this special also rocks a more striking aesthetic combination evident through its red-ringed dial and dual-tone metal strap to offset its black dial face.

The SSC957 model also presents itself with a sizeable 41.4 MM case diameter with a rated 10 bar water resistance. More importantly comes the fact that this model is also a limited and numbered special with just 4,000 pieces available worldwide.

Though limited to just 4,000 pieces worldwide, the SSC957 model from this series is also the most 'accessible' offering as each are priced at just RM4,500.
