NanoMalaysia To Begin Pilot For Green EV Charging
NanoMalaysia Bhd (NMB) is piloting a green EV charger at a Petronas station in the Klang Valley, powered by the RENEW (Renewable Energy Nanogrid) concept with nano-enhanced solar panels. Nano Commerce Sdn Bhd (NCSB), a wholly-owned subsidiary and business arm of NMB, manages technological development in collaboration with a local EV industry. The electric vehicle charger will be placed at the Temasya Petronas station on the Federal Highway.
Since 2021, NMB has been pushing the nation's EV technology strategy as the principal agency for localisation of electric vehicle (EV) technology development under the science, technology, and innovation ministry. RENEW is made up of a 50kW fast-charging EV charger, nano-enhanced solar PV panels, and lithium-ion batteries. The solar PV is improved with a nano coating that adds hydrophobic qualities, allowing for increased efficiency during bad weather. With solar energy and energy storage capabilities, the system's reliance on grid power is decreased by up to 20%, effectively assisting Malaysia's decarbonisation efforts. The NMB's enabling mobility electrification for green economy (EMERGE) initiative is behind this 18-month experimental project. It focuses on the development of electric vehicle technologies to support low-carbon transportation, the Internet of Nano-Things, and off-grid green charging stations, as well as the construction of EV prototypes as validation platforms for potential industrial adoption.
This effort contributes to Malaysia's goal of reducing carbon intensity relative to GDP by 45% by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.
