Public Must Feel Secured Using Bus After Pandemic - Exco Member
According to RapidKL statistics, public bus ridership in Selangor has plummeted by more than half since the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak.
According to Ng Sze Han, head of the Selangor local government and public transport committee, one of the reasons for this could be because people found other ways to avoid the coronavirus, such as purchasing new vehicles.
"This adds to traffic on the highways."
"People should be given more time to regain their trust in public transportation."
"Local governments should also play a role in encouraging people to use public transportation," he added.
He was responding to a follow-up question on Smart Selangor bus ridership from Mohd Shaid Rosli (Pejuang-Jeram).
Ng also stated that three new Smart Selangor bus routes in Port Klang, namely Pandamaran Jaya, Telok Gong, and Pulau Indah, would be considered.
He stated that expanding bus routes to these three regions would be studied further.
"Based on ridership and public demand, we regularly review and enhance Smart Selangor buses and routes."
"Local governments also help by providing pertinent information such as needed renovations and cancelling less popular routes," he added.
Ng stated this in response to Azmizam Zaman Huri (PH-Pelabuhan Klangquery )'s about Smart Selangor bus routes at Port Klang.
