Updated McLaren 720S GT3 EVO racecar debuts
The McLaren 720S GT3 racecar has been updated for 2023. Besides its new ‘EVO’ suffix, it now sports revised aerodynamics plus an uprated suspension set. Critically, the McLaren 720S GT3 EVO can be ordered either as a newly built racecar, or as an upgrade pack for existing 720S GT3 racecars.
Part of the homologation for current 2023 GT3 regulations, the racecar sports all the necessities for competition such as quick-release fastenings for the front bumper and splitter. This provides easier and quicker access for repairs and swaps, whilst other upgrades all around promises increased durability.
The improved aerodynamics stems from the redesigned body panels that now generate more downforce and transfer overall balance forwards. Part of this includes the addition of a new front hood gurney for better balance and cooling.
Other changes include the repositioning of the auxiliary lamps for improved visibility while racing at night. At the rear, the wing gurney has been taller now for better downforce, and features an adjustable wing pylon mechanism too.
Over to the upgraded suspension and McLaren’s motorsports division have opted to prime the McLaren 720S GT3 EVO with Öhlins TTX40 four-way adjustable dampers. These are matched with revised front and rear upper wishbone assemblies. There are also new uprights plus new closed face bells for the brakes to improve rotor durability.
Apart from this latest and upgraded GT3 racer, other racing versions of the McLaren 720S include one GT3X version released several years ago. This, essentially, was an unrestricted version that didn’t comply with GT3 regs.
As for the road car both are based on, the 720S has seen production ceased recently with a successor already in the pipeline – likely christened as the 750S. You can read up about this upcoming successor in our past report by clicking here.
