OPINION: EV Ownership Key Touch Point - The Salesperson!

Owning an Electric Vehicle (EV) would mean the person is ready to embrace change and is willing to go on the journey as an early adopter. This also means he/she is willing to learn all things EV and sort of be the messenger to educate others on how it is like living with an EV on a daily basis.

However, this whole journey STARTS from one person, the person who is the KEY TOUCH POINT that managed to get the owner to start the journey on that particular EV make and model… the SALESPERSON.

What I am witnessing of late, most salespersons are not dissipating key basic EV ownership knowledge to the buyer (like in this case, limitations of the EV’s OBC). It seems most just rely on test-drives, highlighting fuel saving advantage, harping on saving the world, and merely repeating all the important details printed on the brochure.

Not all buyers are tech savvy and some would require detailed explanation to make this journey a pleasant one. So play the part to ensure it is really a pleasant one!

To all the sales guys and brand distributors, do read up and learn about your products and the local EV infrastructure’s growth. Pass this knowledge down to your potential buyers as they start their journey with you.

Selling an EV is an entirely different ball game as compared to selling a traditional ICE vehicle. Effectively, the similarities stop at ferrying people around.
