Kempower 400 kW DCFC By ChargEV Coming Soon At AEON Mall Shah Alam

Pop open your PlugShare app and it is evident that there are hardly any DCFC around the Seksyen 13, Shah Alam vicinity. Presently, much of the area is being served by plenty of AC chargers, which make it a perfect destination charger for those heading for work and appointments.
However, this is about to change very soon as CariCarz.com discovered that ChargEV, in collaboration with AEON Shah Alam, has just completed the installation of an array of DC and AC chargers at the mall.

The ChargEV facility which is located in an obscure corner of the mall’s outdoor parking facility right beneath the ramp bridge, houses six (6) CCS2 Kempower DCFCs and a dual-gun T2 Starcharge Saturn 22 kW cabled AC charger.

Based on the information stated on the Kempower C502 power cabinet, this facility is capable of dispensing up to 400 kW. However, take note that the charging input would entirely depend on your EV’s rated built-in fast charging capability, as well as the number of EV plugged in simultaneously at any one time.

In case you didn't know, Kempower satellite chargers are intelligent enough to distribute power depending on a specific vehicle's state of charge (SOC). To get the highest DC charging input, it's best to plug-in when your vehicle's SOC is low, but also remember to plug-out when your SOC reaches 80% as that's when your charging rate would be extremely slow and inefficient.
As the facility is pretty new and still not operational at the time of writting, we are unable to ascertain how much it costs to charge. Based on ChargEV’s track record, it is safe to assume that this facility would apply kWh-based rates ranging between RM1.20/kWh (member) to RM1.60/kWh (non-member). As for the 22kW AC unit, lets just call it at RM0.80/kWh (member) and RM1.00/kWh (non-member).

Access to this charging facility would be free for the first two hours to AEON members while non-members see a RM1 fee levied. Mind you, the two-hour period ought to be sufficient should you decide to DC fast-charge your EV.
We are unable to verify the go-live date of this facility as all EV charging stations that charges by the kWh would need to be approved and licensed first by the Malaysian Energy Commission (ST). We are however aware of their un-efficient monthly process time in providing approvals, even with all pre-requisites met (a topic we covered at length here).
