Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Marks Milestone 100,000th CKD Unit

MBM sees its 100,000th locally built (CKD) passenger car unit roll off the line at its CKD plant in Pekan, Pahang, earlier this week.


Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) sees its local assembly (CKD) plant in Pekan, Pahang mark a significant milestone earlier this week as said facility saw its milestone 100,000th passenger car unit roll off its line.

This feat is a significant marker for the facility, which was first established back in 2004. Since then, MBM Pekan has seen continuous investment efforts worth over RM500 million to date. MBM adds that the facility continues to reflect the firm’s commitment towards boosting the local economy.

MBM's CKD plant in Pekan, Pahang was first established in 2004, and sees continuous investments since, the latter totalling over RM500 million to date.


“Mercedes-Benz is the first and only luxury automotive manufacturer to master the local production process in Malaysia. This year's milestone achievement highlights the plant's remarkable evolvement and journey, reinforcing our commitment to strengthening our foothold in the luxury car segment,” notes Amanda Zhang, President and CEO of MBM.

Earlier this year, MBM Pekan also marked another milestone when it inducted its first ever localised all-electric model in the form of the EQS 500 4Matic. The move sees MBM aligning with the Mercedes-Benz brand’s global vision of going all-electric by the end of this decade, wherever market conditions allow.

Besides said flagship EV saloon, other models that rolls off the line at MBM Pekan alongside which include other notable staples like the recently inducted second-gen (X254) GLC 300 4Matic, the refreshed 2023MY (V177) A-Class Sedan range, as well as the fifth-gen (W206) C-Class range.

Another key milestone earlier this year for MBM's Pekan plant was the induction of tis first all-electric model, the EQS 500 4Matic.

Amongst many, key staple models that rolls off the line at MBM's Pekan plant include the second-gen GLC 300 4Matic, fifth-gen C-Class range, as well as the recently refreshed A-Class Sedan line-up.


On the subject of carbon neutrality and sustainability, MBM were also keen to highlight that MBM Pekan has undergone various improvements of late for which. These enhancements encompass investments in machinery, capacity expansion and the implementation of various sustainability measures.

“These measures include energy conservation, reduced raw material consumption through innovative packaging, rainwater utilization and the integration of green energy through photovoltaic panels,” adds Andreas Lettner, Vice President of Production at Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia.

Additionally, MBM and contract manufacturing partner HICOM Automotive are working towards a Green Production Target for the production plant by ensuring the best practices are adopted towards reduction of energy, water and waste; all whilst increasing the percentage of renewable energy in its production. The latter includes increasing renewable energy source from 30% (current) to 85% by decade’s end.
