Transport Minister Anthony Loke inaugurated Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad’s (KTMB) open payment system, now operational at 80 stations across the Klang Valley and northern region.
This system allows passengers to use debit cards, credit cards, and e-wallets at automated control gates, completing transactions within one to five seconds.

Loke clarified that the system currently applies only to Komuter services, excluding ETS that service requires online ticket purchases and involves seat selection. The launch took place at Ipoh Railway Station.
Loke highlighted that the upgrading project, initiated in the Klang Valley in September 2022, concluded at the end of the previous year. He commended KTMB for fully funding the project without government funding, praising their proactive approach and efficient execution.

Regarding future plans, Loke mentioned the Transport Ministry's consideration in providing additional ETS services beyond festive seasons to meet growing demand. He noted the possibility of increasing ETS frequency to the north due to its short travel time and preference for daily trips without overnight stays.
KTMB chief corporate officer Suhaimi Yaacob also shared some positive statistics, stating that KTM Intercity ridership increased by 81% to 4.25 million passengers in the previous year from 2.2 million in 2022. Furthermore, ETS and Komuter services also experienced ridership increases of 26.4% and 15.3%, respectively.

In support of the country's digitisation efforts, KTMB also introduced the Rail Rewards loyalty program on Jan 1, offering reward points for every ticket purchased via the KTMB Integrated Ticketing System. These points can be redeemed for purchasing subsequent train tickets, enhancing passenger benefits.
