The 992.2-gen Porsche 911 breaks cover with a new GTS T-Hybrid variant, dubbed the first-ever electrified production 911 model.

Following a lengthy teaser campaign, Porsche has finally peeled off the wraps on the new 992.2-gen Porsche 911 today. Besides some minor facelift treatment and equipment updates, the facelifted 911 gains a new Carrera GTS T-Hybrid variant, which is dubbed the first-ever 911 model to get an electrified powertrain setup.

The hybrid 911 uses a tweaked 3.6-litre turbocharged flat-six 'Boxer' petrol mill as its core.

Focusing on the new hybrid variant for now, the new 911 GTS T-Hybrid swaps its predecessor’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six ‘Boxer’ engine for a new hybrid powertrain that uses a larger 3.6-litre turbocharged flat-six mill as its core. Rated at 478 HP and 570 NM by itself, said engine is then mated to a single, 54 HP-rated electric motor stashed in its 8-speed PDK gearbox for a combined system output of 532 HP and 609 NM.

This setup allows the new 911 GTS T-Hybrid to accelerate from 0-100 KM/H in three seconds flat, while its V-Max is capped at 312 KM/H. These figures put the new, rear-wheel-driven (RWD) Carrera GTS on par with the 992-gen 911 Turbo, despite the fact that said model features a peppier 572 HP-rated turbocharged flat-six mill and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

Unlike many other hybrid sportscars out there, the new 911 GTS T-Hybrid does not come with a silent, EV-only driving mode. Instead, drivers can still feast their ears to the flat-six Boxer’s singing behind their back, which is further enhanced by the standard sport exhaust system the car comes with. Also impressive is the fact that this hybrid 911 only weighs 50 KG more than the pre-facelift GTS model, with its 1.9-kWh-rated 400-volt battery pack that weighs 27 KG being placed at the front for better weight distribution.

Other new features present in the new hybrid 911 include a rear-wheel steering (RWS) system and new PASM adaptive dampers that sit 10 MM lower than before and can be complemented with the optional Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) suspension system with electro-hydraulic roll control.

Besides the new GTS T-Hybrid variant, the newly-updated 992.2-gen 911 only comes in the baseline Carrera, with more potent variants like the 911 Turbo, Turbo S, and GT3 RS variants remaining unchanged for this update. This means that fans might have to sit down for a while before we see these new changes take place on the aforementioned potent variants.

The new 992.2-gen Porsche 911 Carrera model is only offered with an 8-speed PDK gearbox.

On the topic of baseline Carrera, the new 992.2-gen model doesn’t get the same dramatic changes as we saw on the GTS T-Hybrid model, except that its 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six mill has been boosted from 379 HP to 388 HP, while its torque peak remains unchanged at 450 NM. Unfortunately, the baseline 992.2 Carrera only comes with an 8-speed PDK gearbox, with the stick-shift option being removed for this update.

Regardless of engine specs, both the 992.2-gen Carrera and Carrera GTS T-Hybrid will be available in Coupe, Cabriolet, and Targa body styles from the get-go.

Moving on to the cosmetic changes, the new 911 GTS T-Hybrid gets a unique front bumper design that features active air flaps. Working together with the car’s underbody diffusers, these active aero flaps are closed to improve aerodynamics and can be opened to provide better cooling performance.

Regardless of variants, the new 992.2-gen 911 comes with Porsche’s new four-point LED Matrix headlights that bundle all the lighting duties, deeming both the separate DRLs and turn signals obsolete. There’s also a new decklid grille at the rear, and the new illuminated Porsche lettering placed below it is now part of the full-width LED light bar.

Elsewhere, the 992.2 Carrera rides on new 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels as standard, while the GTS T-Hybrid gets a larger set of staggered wheels measuring 20 and 21 inches. Both models are also offered with an optional Porsche SportDesign aero kit, featuring a sportier front lip spoiler, side skirts, and a fixed rear wing.

On board, the new 992.2-gen 911 is finally ditching the twistable simulated key start-up for a more conventional push-start button. However, the bigger news takes place at the rear, as both the 992.2 Carrera and GTS T-Hybrid now come standard with just two seats, with the rear ones now offered as a no-cost option.

Other key equipment upgrades include an air-cooled wireless charging pad and the new 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster with seven different graphics to complement its 10.9-inch infotainment display, with the latter now coming with video and audio streaming functionalities.

Deliveries for the all-new 992.2-gen Porsche 911 are slated to begin in selected international markets as early as Q3 this year for the baseline Carrera variant, followed by the new 911 GTS T-Hybrid later by the end of the year. In the US market, the new 992.2 911 Carrera now starts at $120,100 (RM564,530), while the GTS T-Hybrid commands a higher price tag of $164,900 (RM775,112).

So folks, what do you think of the new electrified Porsche 911? Could this new hybrid-powered Porsche set a new standard for electrified sportscars in the near future? As always, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
