The Daihatsu Rocky Crossfield Is A Rugged, Off-Road-Ready Small SUV

The Daihatsu Rocky Crossfield debuts as an off-road-ready, rugged-looking version of the Perodua Ativa compact SUV.
The Perodua Ativa is one of the most beloved cars in our market, offering a stylish SUV look in a pretty compact and affordable package to the masses. While we have yet to receive any special versions of this baby SUV, its Daihatsu-badged twin just got a new rugged-looking concept version, known as the Daihatsu Rocky Crossfield.

Unveiled at the ongoing Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), the Rocky Crossfield concept is a rugged-looking design study undertaken by Daihatsu on its small SUV model, featuring several off-road modifications and gears. For starters, the Rocky Crossfield comes with unpainted front and rear plastic bumpers, with the front one featuring a pair of yellow fog lamps plus a stylish front grille cover.
The plastic-cladded front and rear ends of the Rocky Crossfield are also complemented with black-hued wheel arch extensions, stylish ‘Rocky Crossfield’ decals on the side to match its Sand Beige metallic paint job, plus an aftermarket roof rack that is equipped with an LED bar.
Adding some proper off-road pedigree to the Rocky Crossfield are the 16-inch black alloy wheels the SUV rides on, with all four shodded in proper all-terrain tyres supplied by Dunlop.

On board, the Rocky Crossfield does not boast as many design or equipment changes as we’ve seen on the exterior, with the only notable piece of equipment present here being the 9-inch infotainment display and the Dray Gray metallic trims.
As expected, the Daihatsu Rocky Crossfield concept boasts no performance modifications, as this rugged-looking small SUV is still powered by the same 1.2-litre 3-cyl nat-asp petrol mill used on its standard twin, producing 85 HP and 105 NM. Despite its off-road-ready facade, the Rocky Crossfield still features a front-wheel-drive (FWD) drivetrain layout instead of an AWD one, plus using the same CVT gearbox as the production model.

Daihatsu’s aim with the Rocky Crossfield concept is to showcase the modification potential of this small SUV, proving that a humble small car like the Rocky or Ativa can be transformed into a proper, rugged-looking off-roader. Besides the Rocky Crossfield, its Subaru-badged twin has also gotten an off-road-ready concept version known as the Subaru Rex Boost Gear, unveiled at last year’s Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) show.
Should Perodua decide to offer the Ativa with any form of off-road design package on top of the existing GearUp accessories, we’d reckon that they will be an instant hit amongst Malaysians.
