The Dongfeng Forthing Xinghai S7 Is The World's Most Aerodynamic Production EV
Dongfeng’s new Forthing Xinghai S7 breaks cover in China as the world’s most aerodynamic production EV.
Chinese automaker Dongfeng has a new EV saloon under its Forthing sub-brand, and it is called the Dongfeng Forthing Xinghai S7. Besides its unusually long name, this sleek EV saloon is touted as the world’s most aerodynamic production electric vehicle, thanks to its sleek fastback bodystyle.
Dongfeng claims the new Forthing S7 to be the most aerodynamic production EV ever made, with a drag coefficient rate of only 0.191 Cd.
According to Dongfeng, the S7 managed to pipe-off the recently-launched Xpeng Mona M03 for the aerodynamic crown, with this fastback EV saloon boasting a low drag coefficient of only 0.191 Cd, as opposed to the Mona M03’s 0.194 rate.
Given its stellar aerodynamic performance, it comes as no surprise that the S7 sports a pretty sleek design, featuring an enclosed front end, flushed door handles, and 19- or 20-inch wheels with an enclosed design. Beyond the B-pillar, the S7 deviates itself away from the conventional three-box sedan, thanks to its fastback-style roofline that goes all the way to its tailgate-mounted ducktail spoiler.
In terms of dimensions, the S7 is a pretty big car, measuring 4,935 MM long, 1,915 MM wide, 1,495 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 2,915 MM.
On board, the S7 gets a pretty minimalist and tech-laden cabin, where customers can opt for either the Oriental White or Sky Twilight Black colourways. Some amenities primed here include the 15.6-inch central infotainment screen powered by Xinghai OS, a smaller 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-speaker sound system, heated front seats, and more.
Regardless of variants or trim levels, only one powertrain specs will be offered to the Forthing S7.
Moving on to its powertrain specs, the new Forthing S7 gets its power from a single, rear-mounted (RWD) electric motor rated at 215 HP (160 kW) and 310 NM, allowing the car to go from 0-100 KM/H in a respectable 6.67 seconds. Juice is provided by a 56.8-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack that is good for up to 555 KM of EV range, at least according to the more lenient CLTC standards. Also to note that all three variants of the S7 in China use the same powertrain setup, although a range-extender EV (REEV) version is currently in the pipeline.
Given its neck-to-neck specs and performance numbers with the Xpeng Mona M03, it comes as no surprise that the all-new Dongfeng Forthing Xinghai S7 is also priced closely to said EV model, with prices starting from CNY 119,800 (RM70,536) for the Light edition, CNY 129,800 (RM76,424) for the Pleasure edition, and CNY 139,800 (RM82,312) for the top-spec Luxury edition. This effectively makes the S7 one of the most affordable EV saloons in the Great Wall market, although those prices may not reflect in other international markets should Dongfeng decide to export them elsewhere.
