Motul Becomes First To Receive SIRIM Certification And Label

This week, leading international engine lubricants brand Motul revealed it has been certified by the SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd (SIRIM) local testing, inspection and certification body.
More specifically, the certification was awarded to Speciality Lubricants Trading (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd – a subsidiary and authorised distributor of Motul Asia Pacific – earlier this month on March 10, as revealed by the firm via a press release.
The move aligns with a recent new ruling announced by the government that made it compulsory for all engine lubricants sold in Malaysia to bear a SIRIM label starting from April 7 onwards. This applies to engine lubricants that are both locally produced and imported.
Motul now stands as the first international engine lubricants brand in Malaysia to receive the new certification detailed, and all the brand's engine lubricants will now bear a SIRIM label signalling its authenticity.
Ahead of which Motul now becomes the first international engine lubricants brand in Malaysia to be certified by SIRIM under this new ruling. As a result, Motul’s products distributed through authorised channels will now bear the new SIRIM label too, thus certifying its authenticity.
As a refresher, this new SIRIM label ruling for engine lubricants mentioned was devised to curb and combat counterfeits and fakes – a rampant problem plaguing the local engine lubricant products market space.
“This certification reinforces the brand’s long-standing commitment to providing high-performance products for Malaysian customers,” read the brand’s official statement regarding the certification.
It also adds that customers can now look out for the SIRIM label when purchasing Motul products. This, in turn, ought to guarantee that customers receive genuine and certified engine lubricants.
Representatives from both Motul and SIRIM present during a ceremony held on March 10 where the latter presented the certification to the former.
“This recognition is not just a feather in our cap – it is a testament to our dedication to Malaysia’s vibrant automotive community and our customers’ trust in our product,” said Ravi Shankar, Country Manager for Motul.
“By ensuring engine oils meet stringent international standards, we are fortifying the market against fraudulent products while supporting industry integrity and consumer protection,” adds SIRIM CEO Ts. Md Adha Rahmat.
Md Adha continued further in noting that the certification scheme supports Malaysia’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts towards lowering vehicle emissions and foster sustainable industry practices.
More leading engine lubricant brands are expected to follow suit and issue similar announcements as this effort by Motul in the coming weeks as the new ruling is enforced.
