Chery took the Auto Shanghai 2025 stage to unveil its new global pick-up truck sub-brand known as Himla.

Besides the spanking new Tiggo 9 L SUV, Chery has also debuted its new pick-up truck sub-brand at the Auto Shanghai 2025 motor show, known as Himla. In conjunction with this launch, the Wuhu-based automaker has also shown the first metal under this new Himla sub-brand, which comes in the form of an unnamed midsize dual-cab pick-up truck.

This unnamed Chery Himla pick-up truck is based on the KP11 prototype shown last year.

Initially shown in its concept form last year, the Himla dual-cab truck, codenamed KP11, gets a pretty rugged design with some design cues carried over from its more urbane cousins. Key design highlights include a large front grille with "Chery" typeface (not Himla, though), dual-stack LED headlights with thin LED DRLs on the top, vertical LED taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels shod in all-terrain (A/T) tyres, and many more.

Besides the design bits, the Himla dual-cab truck also comes with a built-in sports bar and side steps at the rear, while its flatbed measures roughly similar to other midsize pick-up trucks out there. Keen eyes will notice that the flatbed does not have any utility amenities like a three-pin plug, storage hooks, or even a 12-volt charger, although their absence is somewhat expected given the pre-production state of the truck itself.

Onboard, the Himla dual-cab model promises to deliver a pretty decent life quality, despite its rough and rugged exterior design. Passengers can find typical creature comforts like a dual-screen setup comprising a fully digital instrument cluster and a central infotainment display, powered and ventilated front seats, a slew of physical buttons and controls for the climate and the drivetrain mode selector, and many more.

As of now, Chery has yet to announce any specific details regarding the powertrain setup on this dual-cab truck but promises a comprehensive powertrain lineup ranging from full combustion petrol and diesel, as well as both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric (BEV). In terms of underpinnings, Chery had previous experience in making ladder-frame chassis for its Karry commercial arm, so we can expect the Himla trucks to get their own dedicated platform.

And Chery’s decision to offer the Himla trucks with multiple powertrains is not a coincidence, as this new sub-brand will be heading to markets beyond the Great Wall, with Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America among the first few.

Given that the first model shown is a midsize dual-cab truck, perhaps it is an indication that the Himla brand might be making its way into popular midsize pick-up truck markets like Thailand, Australia, and possibly Malaysia, too.

Beyond the midsize pick-up trucks, however, Chery promises the Himla brand will also be making various types and sizes of pick-up trucks, as it aims to “deliver a full lineup spanning from compact to midsize and large pickups.”
