Auto Shanghai 2025: Geely Galaxy Cruiser Bows As World’s First Amphibious EV SUV

Geely has unveiled the Galaxy Cruiser, a radical new SUV prototype revealed at the Auto Shanghai 2025. With bold, boxy styling reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender, it’s built for serious adventure with a futuristic twist.

Though details are still scarce, we understand that the Galaxy Cruiser is designed to switch effortlessly between front, rear and all-wheel drive, while also toggling between electric, hybrid, and extended-range modes. 

It’s powered by Geely’s new “full-domain AI” system, which adapts in real time to terrain and driving conditions.

That same AI technology underpins an advanced digital chassis capable of precision maneuvers like crab walking, zero-radius turning, and autonomous drifting. Even driving with a flat tire is said to not be an issue.

Taking things even further, Geely says the Cruiser can float for up to two hours, thanks to an onboard sonar and water radar system. It can cruise on water at over 8.5 KM/H and wade through depths exceeding 800 MM.

The heart of the Cruiser is the Golden Short Blade Battery, a next-generation power unit developed entirely in-house. It uses unique short-blade cell architecture to boost energy density and efficiency, while staying cooler under stress. The battery is reinforced with patented bulletproof coatings to prevent deformation, fire, and explosion — even in extreme conditions.

It’s the first major product under Geely’s new battery group, Ji Yao Tong Xing, which aims to push global standards in EV safety, fast charging, and long-term durability.

Connectivity in the Galaxy Cruiser is handled by Geely’s two-way satellite which is set to be launched later this year, ensuring the vehicle stays online in areas without traditional coverage. Navigation, diagnostics, and AI controls remain uninterrupted, even far from civilization.

Safety development was led by the Geely Global Safety Center, which helped define five core standards for the Cruiser: maintaining control, avoiding fire, staying connected, preventing collisions, and resisting sinking.

With a good mix of AI, EV, and extreme off-road capability, the Galaxy Cruiser is a glimpse into what Geely has to offer in the intelligent adventure vehicles space should it be put into production.
