Chery Tiggo 4 HEV Detailed – 1.5L CSH with Up to 1,000 KM of Range

We took a closer look at the Chery Tiggo 4 HEV, one of the Chery Super Hybrid models tipped to debut in Malaysia soon…
In case you missed it, Chinese automaker Chery recently announced its new model lineup featuring its new hybrid setup known as the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH). Besides the Tiggo 8 PHEV shown at Auto Shanghai 2025, another CSH model that is tipped to make its Malaysian debut soon is the smaller Chery Tiggo 4 HEV, which was shown to us during the Chery International Business Summit 2025 (CIBS 2025) last week.
As its name suggests, the Tiggo 4 HEV is essentially a series-parallel hybrid (HEV) version of the Tiggo 4 subcompact SUV, which is also known as the Chery Tiggo Cross in markets like Indonesia and Thailand.

On the visual front, the Tiggo 4 HEV looks somewhat similar to both its Indonesian and Thai counterparts, using the facelifted Tiggo 4 Pro as its base. It retains many design cues derived from its larger siblings, like the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8, including the hexagonal front grille with diamond-pattern inserts, sharp LED headlights with vertical DRL strips, and through-type LED taillights, while the ‘Hybrid’ badge at the back helps to differentiate the HEV model from its full combustion twin.

Dimension-wise, the Tiggo 4 HEV measures 4,318 MM long, 1,831 MM wide, 1,665 MM tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,610 MM, which puts it in the same category as other subcompact SUV crossovers like the Honda WR-V, Perodua Ativa, and Mazda CX-3.

The similarities in design continue as we get inside the Tiggo 4 HEV’s cabin, with the hybrid crossover retaining the same dual-screen setup at the front as its ICE twin. Keen eyes will notice that the HEV gets a slightly redesigned central console, where it houses a more minimalist gear shift knob and a new digital climate control panel, while the wireless charger has been repositioned.
By far the biggest difference between the Tiggo 4 HEV and its full combustion twin lies under the hood, as the former swaps the 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbopetrol lump for a dedicated HEV powertrain setup. This setup comprises a 1.5-litre 4-cyl nat-asp petrol engine rated at 97 HP and 118 NM and a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) that incorporates an electric motor rated at 201 HP and 310 NM—the same unit used on the Tiggo 8 PHEV.
Combined with its small 1.83-kWh battery pack, the Tiggo 4 HEV delivers a pretty impressive fuel economy rate of 5.4 litres per 100 KM, while its combined range is capped at up to 1,000 KM, according to Chery.

News of Chery Malaysia planning to introduce the Tiggo 4 (or Tiggo Cross) into our market has been circulating for eons, with the automaker initially announcing that the small SUV would debut sometime in Q4 last year before being indefinitely postponed. With its hybrid version already having been shown, perhaps Chery Malaysia will debut the Tiggo 4 HEV alongside its full combustion twin, thus potentially making it the only hybrid-powered model among its aforementioned rivals.
So folks, what do you think of the Chery Tiggo 4 HEV? Would you prefer Chery Malaysia to bring this hybrid-powered subcompact SUV over its turbocharged combustion twin?
