At the 2025 International Automotive and Supply Chain (IASC) Expo held in Hong Kong on June 12, Chery Chairman Yin Tongyue announced a historic milestone: Chery is poised to become the first Chinese automaker to surpass the five million cumulative vehicle exports mark by June 20.

This milestone comes as Chery makes its debut at the Hong Kong Auto Expo and prepares to officially launch its vehicles in the Hong Kong market later this year.

During the event, Chery showcased twelve new energy vehicles (NEVs) under seven sub-brands namely, Chery, Exeed, Jetour, iCAR, Luxeed, Omoda and Jaecoo. It also showcased its latest technology, including a 48% thermal-efficiency Kunpeng Tianqing engine, a 30,000 rpm high-speed electric motor, and the intelligent Mogu robot.

These models cover a wide spectrum of buyer demography, from daily commuters to off-road adventures. The lineup highlights Chery’s commitment to electrification, innovation, and offering something for every kind of driver.

Chery has seen strong sales growth momentum in 2025. Between January and May, the group sold 1,026,517 vehicles, a 14% increase compared to the same period last year.

Off these numbers, NEV sales jumped 111.5% year-on-year, totaling 287,798 units. Exports reached 443,940 units, reinforcing Chery’s standing as China’s leading vehicle exporter.

Currently, Chery ships one vehicle overseas every 29 seconds.

In May 2025 alone, the group sold 205,732 vehicles, up 9.1%. Of those, 191,567 were sold by Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., reflecting a 7.2% increase. NEV sales in May reached 63,169 units, up 47.7%, while exports climbed to 100,737 units, marking a 7.7% increase.

Chery’s current global user base exceeded 16.7 million users, with over 4.94 million of them located outside of China.

Earlier this year, Chery submitted a listing application to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The company aims to leverage Hong Kong’s strengths as a hub for finance, logistics, innovation, and talent.

Chery is also exploring the establishment of a manufacturing base in Hong Kong, supporting its global production and expansion goals.

Now unlike the conundrum taking place at Hozon Auto (Neta), financially, Chery remains on solid ground. For the first three quarters of 2024, the company reported revenue of RMB182.15 billion (RM106 billion) and a net profit of RMB11.31 billion (RM6.6 billion).

Executives confirmed that proceeds from the upcoming IPO will be primarily invested in NEV research and development as well as overseas market expansion, underscoring Chery’s long-term commitment to innovation and global growth.

Now back in Malaysia, Chery’s rapidly growing presence is becoming more visible with the rollout of the Chery, Omoda | Jaecoo and most recently iCaur, further strengthening its market reach.

And remember Exeed, Chery’s premium sub-brand that Carz.com.my anticipated would enter Malaysia in a role similar to BYD’s Denza? That plan appears very much alive based on Chery’s current hiring patterns in Malaysia.

What is evident is the brand is laying the groundwork for a wider rollout. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Exeed launch in Malaysia as early as the first quarter of 2026, or even sooner further boosting the brands export centric strategy
