2025 BYD Seal Teased - New Wheels, Sunshade, & DiSus-C Tech
-full_normal.jpg)
The local NEV market space could be in for another shake-up, or perhaps a touch of crowding - depending on how you see things, of course.
Earlier today, BYD Cars Malaysia has dropped yet another cryptic teaser on its official social media page, and it has sparked widespread debate.
A quick Google image search seemed to confirm that the animal featured was a sea lion, leading many to believe the teaser pointed to the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i plug-in hybrid SUV. However, insider details reveal that the silhouette is in fact a Seal. This just goes to show that Google isn’t always correct.
Guess the confusion is real, BYD Cars Malaysia followers as well as Google was equally clueless.
Now that we know its a Seal, it would seem like BYD Cars Malaysia is likely aiming to reignite sales of its Seal EV saloon, which has slowed and recently overtaken in popularity by the larger and newer Sea Lion 7 EV SUV.
The move likely entails with the introduction of the updated 2025 model, which entered neighbouring Singapore earlier this year. The refreshed Seal carries a series of subtle but meaningful upgrades that could help it regain attention in Malaysia’s increasingly competitive yet neglected EV saloon segment.

The current Malaysian lineup consists of three variants: Dynamic RWD, Premium RWD and Performance AWD. It is highly likely that all three will return with the latest updates.
Visually, the changes are modest but worth noting. Promised here are sportier new alloy wheels design, an electric sunshade for the panoramic glass roof, plus slightly improved practicality via the adoption of a 53-litre frunk - up from 50-litre seen in the current version.

The most significant mechanical update is the addition of BYD’s DiSus-C adaptive damping suspension system. Mirroring the setup primed in the premium Denza D9 MPV, this electronically controlled suspension is designed to improve ride comfort, cornering stability, and refinement - something the low-riding Seal arguably needs.
Naturally, DiSus-C will most likely be reserved for the flagship Performance AWD variant, where it can best complement the model’s sportscar-like acceleration and handling.

Powertrains remain unchanged. The entry-level Dynamic RWD uses a 61.44 kWh Blade Battery with a 100 kW (134 HP) rear motor, offering a WLTP range of 460 KM and a 0–100 KM/H time of 10 seconds.
The Premium RWD keeps its 82.56 kWh battery and 230 kW (313 HP) rear motor, delivering up to 570 KM of range and a 0–100 KM/H sprint of 5.9 seconds. The top Performance AWD variant retains its dual-motor setup producing 390 kW (530 HP) and 670 NM, enabling a 3.8-second 0–100 KM/H time with a 520 KM WLTP range.

Inside, all variants continue to offer a well-equipped cabin. Key features include a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, a 12-speaker Dynaudio audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated and heated front seats, and a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems.
While the changes are not dramatic, they focus on comfort, usability, and refinement. These are areas that could help the Seal stand out once more especially against the refreshed Tesla Model 3.
With competition growing and the Sealion 7 currently drawing more attention, the refreshed Seal could be the boost BYD needs to win back interest in Malaysia’s premium EV saloon market.
