Prasarana Malaysia Bhd is urging the government to maintain unlimited monthly travel passes such as My50 and MyBAS50, and to continue supporting the near-complete Shah Alam Line (LRT3) in Budget 2026.

The company said the travel pass has proven effective in easing living costs by making public transport more affordable and accessible. Continued backing for LRT3, it added, is crucial to expanding the Klang Valley’s rail network and improving daily commutes for millions.

Prasarana noted that both initiatives reflect a broader goal of building a public transport system that is safer, more efficient and inclusive for the benefit of the people and national progress.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Institute of Transport (MiTRANS) director and Universiti Teknologi MARA associate professor Dr Wan Mazlina Wan Mohamed called for greater focus on transport connectivity in East Malaysia.

She urged the government to prioritise the upgrading of short take-off and landing (STOL) airports that serve remote communities, saying these facilities are vital for access to education, healthcare and emergency response.

Dr Wan Mazlina said allocations in 2025 for airport upgrades in Tawau and Miri have boosted connectivity and tourism, and similar investments should be extended to other STOL airports.

She also highlighted the need to strengthen Malaysia’s freight rail capacity by purchasing new or refurbishing existing rolling stock to meet rising demand.

Upgrading cargo trains, she said, would help the country raise its rail freight share from 5 to 12% by 2030 and support major projects such as the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) and intermodal terminals.
