Legenda Beringin Holding Sdn Bhd (Legenda Beringin) and Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Chery Malaysia) have signed an agreement to develop the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park. The event also marked the groundbreaking of the project.
Legenda Beringin is the master developer of Beringin High-Tech Auto Valley (“Beringin HTA Valley”), where Chery Holding Group Co., Ltd. is making a major investment. This project will strengthen Malaysia and Selangor as key hubs for automotive manufacturing and technology.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by His Highness Tengku Amir Shah, Raja Muda of Selangor, and YAB Datuk Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Menteri Besar of Selangor. Both leaders, along with other officials, also took part in the groundbreaking.
Also present were YB Tuan Ng Sze Han, the Selangor EXCO for Investment, Trade, and Mobility Committee, Chery Automobile Co., Ltd Chairman Yin Tongyue, Chery International President Zhang Guibing, Chery Corporate Malaysia Executive VP Leo Chen, Legenda Beringin Chairman Chia Song Kooi, Co-Chairman Ng Sai Bee, and Ruby Technique Sdn Bhd Chairman Dr Chia Song Kun.
Ruby Technique S/B, a private venture of the Chia Family Office, is a major shareholder in Legenda Beringin.
The Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park will be the first phase of the 800-acre Beringin HTA Valley. Covering 200 acres, it will bring advanced automotive manufacturing and innovation to Hulu Selangor.
The project is set to be completed by 2026. Initially, it will produce 100,000 vehicles per year, with the potential to increase capacity to 300,000 vehicles annually. Chery is investing RM2.2 billion over five years in this development.
The remaining land will be used for projects that support automotive innovation, supply chain development, vocational training, and technology advancement.
Chery Holding Group, a Fortune Global 500 company, sees this investment as a sign of confidence in Selangor’s industrial growth. The company aims to establish top-tier manufacturing, smart technologies, and a variety of vehicle types, including ICE, PHEV, BEV, and EEV models.
“This development will create high-value jobs, house an advanced R&D center, expand exports, and strengthen Malaysia’s role in the ASEAN automotive market,” said Chery International President Zhang Guibing.
Zhang further added that the current CKD production lines at Hikom Kulim, Kedah and Chery Shah Alam will continue operating and supporting the Beringin HTA Valley plant.
Legenda Beringin Chairman Chia Song Kooi added that the project aligns with Malaysia’s vision for a high-tech and sustainable economy by 2030. He thanked Chery, the Selangor State Government, and Invest Selangor for their support.
As Beringin HTA Valley continues to grow, this partnership highlights Selangor as a prime destination for high-tech automotive investment. The Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park will help position Malaysia as a key player in the regional automotive industry.
