JMR Reveals New Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R Racecar
Johor Motorsports Racing (JMR) has parted ways with Mercedes-AMG. Last night, it announced Chevrolet as their new constructor for the 2025 season, marking a significant shift for the team.
Revealed last night too is the team’s new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R racecar. This change also makes JMR the first team in the region to field the Corvette Z06 GT3.R with two entries this season.
The two Johor princes, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Hassanal Jefri Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim, will both pilot the new racecars as they embark on this exciting new chapter.
Chevrolet Motorsports Competition Programme director Mark Stielow welcomed JMR to the Corvette Racing family.
“.It’s exciting to support Prince Jefri, Prince Abu Bakar, and the entire JMR outfit throughout the season. We’re also pleased to see growing global interest in our Corvette GT3 and look forward to a strong partnership with JMR,” said Stielow in an official statement.
“We’re proud to be the first team in the region running the Z06 GT3.R, especially with two cars this season. Hopefully, this marks the beginning of a long and successful partnership,” expressed Tunku Abdul Rahman, further.
Since their debut in 2019, the JMR outfit has won three championship titles and secured 53 podium finishes.
The team’s most successful season came in 2022 when they clinched the GT World Challenge Asia Team and Pro-Am Drivers’ Championships (Tunku Abdul Rahman) as well as the GT Australia Endurance Championship.
Tunku Abdul Rahman was also the Pro-Am runner-up in the 2021 GT World Challenge Australia and the 2024 Asian Le Mans Series. Younger brother Tunku Abu Bakar, on the other hand, finished as drivers’ runner-up in the 2023 GT World Challenge Asia in his debut season.
